i never was one of those little girls who planned out my fairytale wedding. i know, i know, i seem like the type. even i think i’m the type, but i didn’t, but i figure there’s nothing better than making up for lost time. now i’m not saying that i am about to start planning my future wedding anytime soon, but martha stewart’s coverage of weddings on her websites has my d.i.y. side freaking out. i recently discovered the real weddings/diy wedding section and it has me obsessed. god knows i love planning out tiny little details, and it makes me feel a little better about this fact knowing other people do too. one of the most recent weddings was held at a horse stable and the little details were amazing, like the decor, the goody bags and even the reception’s location, within a barn filled with sparkling lights. if you want to see more details go over to the martha stewart website to check it out!

i am back in good ol’ new york, and finally i feel like i can sleep! while unpacking my room i have also been preparing for a new job, so it’s been nothing short of busy. not to mention i injured my hand so it is currently wrapped in a little cast, making typing not too easy. once my room is done (i’ll post about it) i can finally feel settled in. one of the upsides of coming home is feeling like you don’t have to dress up, basically it’s okay to live in workout pants and t-shirts. i’ve realized i need to break this pattern and fast, so here are some outfits i am absolutely loving. (this also took me forever to type, i miss my fully functioning hand)

so last night happened to one of the biggest nights of the year for the stars, and for the people who happen to stalk what the stars are wearing, aka me. this big night is know as the met gala, and the theme was PUNK: chaos to couture. with a theme like that you know people are going to bring in the big guns, and that they did. i have never seen so many spikes, rocker hairstyles and vampy lips, and i loved every second of it. there were a few more tame approaches, like ivanka trump, but i was still feeling her all-american approach to the punk look. plus if i was a blonde and wanted to get colored streaks, her hair would be the ultimate inspiration. i definitely had a few favorites from last night (as you can see below) that some may or may not agree with (i think anne rocked the bleached blonde hair), but i think we all can say that minka kelly straight up channeled a punk goddess. girl looked unbelievable, and i want to somehow find a way to wear my hair and makeup exactly the way she did. even though i most definitely do not look like her, there’s nothing like a little wishful thinking.

coming up with a blog post is not always easy to do. whenever i do get an idea i’ll write it down right away, but most of the time i don’t have a set way of doing things. one of my biggest inspirations does come from photos. at one time i will have multiple photos splayed across my desktop, grouped into little clusters, just waiting to be picked. the tricky part is deciding what to write about them. at the same time it happens to be the best part, because that’s where i get my prime ramblings that usually end up being something. i mean yesterday i went from instagram to harry potter… i didn’t even mean to make that connection and i just did. if anything, my life in lipstick has taught me that things happen… life happens. you can’t always plan everything out, sometimes you just have to just wait and see what’s in store. i guess the photos i’ve chosen are an example of that. they may be similar in color tone (to some extent), but they just happen to be of things i love, or like, or wish to see one day. together they have meaning, and while it may not be completely planned out, as anything goes in life, it’s what you make of it.

so when i started to decide what photos to put in this post i was not expecting to get nostalgic, but of course i did. gathering up a few photos should be easy, but it isn’t once you start realizing how much time has gone by. although some of these photos seem like yesterday, they weren’t. i’m officially in my last week of sophomore year, halfway done with college, and i don’t really know where the time went. one minute i’m taking a photo of the first cherry blossom blooms this spring, or enjoying my first coffee, and in the next minute i’m figuring out what to pack to go home. (last year’s move out was straight out of hell… my mom and brother can back me up on that one) leaving school isn’t easy, i always get emotional (such an understatement), and hopefully this end-of-the-year farewell will be easier for me. in a sense, i feel like harry every time he’s leaving hogwarts; if you’ve seen the movies you know what i mean. at the end of every movie (or almost every movie) harry says bye to all his friends and off he goes. it always made me so sad, but now i get why.. leaving your friends and your home isn’t exactly a good time. georgetown has become home for me, and even though i’m leaving soon i will be back again, just like harry. (sorry, i had to)

don’t you forget about me

on monday i had my last class of sophomore year. my LAST class!! see, i’m the kind of person who freaks out about these kinds of things. i get emotional and reflect on the whole entire year, then begin to wonder where the time went, and then the endless cycle has begun. the good thing is that before i let my life become a whirlwind of feelings and emotions i remember that i do have finals and studying needs to occur. so as i sit here and write this post, i’m also in the process of making my roman archaeology study guide. oddly enough i am looking forward to this test (if that’s possible), but it’s because i actually love the class. it doesn’t help that i have don’t you forget about me playing on pandora and all i want to do is watch the breakfast club. (i know you guys would want to do the same) so maybe i should focus right now, which i swear i will, but in one of my final classes the other day we received some advice from one of my favorite professors. i realized i went off track all the way up to this point, but i feel like my ramblings somehow connect to each other by the end of my posts. it was something that was right up my alley, as my friends proceeded to point out while i copied down everything she said word for word. when she was speaking i thought to myself this is exactly how i feel, and i admit (not like it’s hard to) i love inspirational quotes and sayings so i wanted to pass it on. thank you professor thompson!!

since the ripe ol’ age of 18 i have been an employee of j.crew, and i have been wearing the clothes since i was able to. i still remember the corduroy skirt with critter phase, the rainbow assortment of polos, and madras headbands. did i participate in these trends? you bet i did. looking back at this time in my life there’s a small part of me that cringes, but the other part recognizes the fact that j.crew has been there through it all. when i got older and learned more about the business and the inner workings i appreciated the brand so much more. from this appreciation grew a respect (or obsession) with mickey drexler and jenna lyons. they both stand as life/business/fashion role models for me, and any time there’s a chance they’re going to make a store visit i jump at the chance. i missed jenna’s visit last time… not a good time for me! anyhow, the way j.crew was turned around and made into a retail giant is crazy to see, especially from the point of view from someone like me, who has stuck with the brand since childhood. as a jcrew employee and a jenna devotee i definitely have a few tidbits saved here and there which serve as personal inspiration (try not to freak out over jenna’s office)… now it’s time to reveal them to the world (do you like the dramatics?)

so i will admit i’ve been mia, but i have an excuse. bronchitis has taken over my life, and the last two weeks have been hell. i am on antibiotics, steroids (not the muscle kind) and an inhaler, so life has gotten away from me a bit. i hope i start feeling better soon, but until then i’ve found a new pastime, or in other terms, gotten reacquainted with an old one. polyvore. i’ve mentioned on here that in my heyday i used to be a beauty tutorial girl on polyvore, but before that i did fashion sets. well, i’ve been using the site recently to make art sets, and i forgot how much i loved it. literally one of the coolest sites ever. so until next time i’ll leave you with some of my favorite sets… (i’m going to leave out the sets from my “MEGamakeupaddict” days and stick to my mylifeinlipstick phase)
