something i’ve realized is that i don’t wear face makeup during the work week. i wear brow gel and mascara during the week, but that’s really the most you’ll see me wearing. there’s something about living in the city and being exposed to some really gross stuff in the air. for that reason, i like to give my skin a break during the week. while i do wear face makeup if i’m going out during the weekend, my favorite look is “au naturale.” the lovely ladies in the photos pictured here rock that look, and it’s one of my favorites. for me, achieving this look is easy to do with the follow objects:

clarins beauty flash balm | this stuff is a GAME CHANGER. it costs a pretty penny, but i use it as a primer, a face moisturizer, basically for anything i need. if i feel like my skin needs something, then this is my go-to.

hourglass ambient lighting powder | i love to brush this all over my face for a smooth, even glow. it’s not too much and it helps brighten up my skin.

hourglass strobe lighting powder | i will say you have to pack this stuff on, but it is my favorite. it’s a beautiful highlighter and gives your face that perfect shine.

l’oreal voluminous million lashes mascara | this is hands down my favorite mascara and is budget-friendly. it gives you natural, luscious lashes and i have gone through four tubes of it. i call this my “holy grail” mascara, and if you try it you will see why.

benefit gimme brow volumizing fiber gel | this brow gel is the best for natural brows. all you do is swipe it on and head on your merry way. sometimes i’ll do a bit more, but if i’m on the move and want something easy this is it.

buxom full-on lip cream | this stuff is the bomb. there are multiple shades, but white russian is the color i always have in my bag. it’s the definition of my lips, but better and once again is my holy grail lip gloss.

laura mercier caviar stick eye colour | if you want a soft wash of color, these babies are your best friends. from some of the photos here, you can see that their eye looks were achieved with the lightest of shadows. i’d recommend using some of these guys for help with that technique. personally, i love moonlight and amethyst!

adele-tickets-and-tour-dates-schedule

say hello to my idol, my favorite, my #1. since the moment she came on the scene i have been a proud fangirl, and throughout the years this hasn’t changed. if anything my love has only grown, and after seeing her live at madison square garden, my dreams have come true. i laughed, i cried, i dance, i sang (not necessarily in that order) and fangirled way too hard. let’s be honest though, you would do the same.

now it’s time to discuss her makeup, because i think we all can agree it is perfect. it’s not too much, but just enough, and it’s an easy go-to look. the first step in achieving her look is keeping your skin fresh with your regular face routine, minus the bronzer and highlighter. instead go for a matte contour shade and give your cheekbones some definition. we all know the focus of her look is the eyes (as it always is with adele). all you need is some neutral shadow to give your eyes some depth and a heavy flick of eyeliner, and you’re good to go. top it off with a few heavy swipes of mascara, or falsies if you’re in the mood, and you have mastered the adele look. all you need to complete this look is a rosy nude lip. if you don’t want to break the bank try out this little guy from maybelline. and if you’re willing to spend a bit more, try out this shade from nars.  i know i make it sound super simple, so if more detail is needed i would check out this video. if you’re feeling extra creative (and since halloween is right around the corner), throw on a black dress, grab a fake mic, fashion yourself a grammy or two, and embrace your inner adele for a costume this year.

i’m going to try something a little bit different on here… makeup tutorials, so to speak. some of you may already know i used to post tutorials years ago and i stopped doing that for a while, but i think every once in a while it’ll be fun to include a few. with a certain day quickly approaching (a romantic day, so to speak… or even a treat yoself kind of day), hopefully i can help out in the beauty department. shay mitchell always rocks beautiful makeup thanks to her makeup artist, patrick ta, who creates looks i am obsessed with.

i love this look here, especially the warm, soft eye makeup, glowing skin, and sultry lip. it’s a look that works. if you want to give this look a try, there are a few key things you need to gather:

– burgundy red lipstick (try mac diva or nyx burgundy), highlighter (try nars copacabana or nyx liquid illuminator), neutral eyeshadow colors (try urban decay naked palette or l’oreal the nudes), voluminizing mascara (try urban decay perversion or l’oreal voluminous mascara)

there are two different types of people: those who apply face makeup before eye makeup and those who do the reverse. i am the former. to get this started complete your normal face routine and add a little bit of bronzer on the hollows of your cheekbones to add some warmth to your face. one of the key parts of this look is the glow or “strobe” effect. by applying highlighter to the tops of cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, and your cupid’s bow. this is the very basic way to highlight, but if you feel like going crazy just look up some tutorials.

now, for the eyes begin by applying a light tone in the inner corner to open up your eye (urban decay virgin) and buff into the inner 1/3 of your eye. blend a warm brown throughout the rest of your eye, which includes the crease and remaining parts of the lid) and along the lower lashline (combine urban decay buck and naked). to achieve that shimmer effect that shay has on the inner half of her eye and lower lashline, take a bronze or gold tone shadow and lightly pat it onto these areas (urban decay sidecar or half baked). finish off by lining your upper lashline very closely to the roots of your lashes; this will allow for your lashes to look thicker without ruining this ~soft makeup~ by looking like you’re wearing a ton of eyeliner. finish off with a few coats of mascara and you are good to go.

now for the lips… make sure your lips are prepped beforehand, meaning they should be moisturized and dry skin should be removed by gently exfoliating with a spare toothbrush. apply one layer of lip color, blot with a tissue, and finish off with a second coat. check your teeth (since getting lipstick on them is not the greatest look) and you’re ready to head out the door.

stay tuned for more beauty posts!

surprise, surprise… another month has come and gone. i feel like just yesterday i was writing a post about december and here we are ushering in february. luckily for me, i love february, which means new ~tasteful~ heart decor will be decorating my place. there are a few things on my list for the month: exploring brooklyn by way of walking the brooklyn bridge, taking a trip out to the beach, planning a trip with my friends from home, reading as much as possible, and talking about more beauty-related things on here. i mean if february isn’t the month of romantic eyes and alluring lips then i don’t know what is… stay tuned for those kinds of posts, because i promise they are coming!

skin saviors

garnier’s super refreshing towelettes | kiehl’s skin-boosting miracle oil | the best re-energizing mask | this lotion is my skin’s best friend in the winter | a quick and easy mask to hydrate and brighten | these pads have made such a big difference for my skin | a mask that basically removes all impurities | my favorite heavy-duty face oil that smells heavenly | the new addition/game-changing makeup remover in my routine

i’m one of those people who always wanted a skin routine, and had the products for one, but never stuck to it. this year that all changed. there’s something about finding what works for you and seeing the difference it makes that has finally gotten me to stick to a skincare regimen. every night i clean my face (which honestly makes such a huge difference) with cleansing water and finish off with a cleansing towelette. after that it’s all about those facial radiance pads you see above… they exfoliate, tone, and brighten and they are legit. there are three masks i love:

– the boscia mask is great if your skin is oily and you’re feeling the blackhead struggle

– the sephora oxygen mask makes your skin feel fresh and rejuvenated. as cliched as it sounds, it’s like giving your face a breath of fresh air

– the sephora rose mask hydrates and brightens… and after a long week at work, this helps.

lastly, when my skin is needing that extra boost i go to my oils: at nighttime it’s the korres black pine oil, which smells UNREAL, and does wonders for your skin. in the morning it’s the kiehl’s reviving concentrate.

now i just need to make sure this routine sticks, but with the way it’s going i think it will.

pinks

bite corvina lip pencil | l’oreal pink restistance | urban decay obsessed | nars schiap | buxom katie | nars greta | nars sex machine | bite velvet lip pencil  | bite rose lipstick | tarte lively | nars roman holiday

when i first put together my favorite red shades of lip products i realized it was actually kind of fun laying them all out. so i moved on to doing my favorite nude colors, and now we’re at pink. i tend to favor deep pinks, bright pinks, and blush pinks over the kind of  bubblegum pinks that tend to be more chalky. throughout the years i’ve learned what works for me and what doesn’t… i’m glad i now understand that a pepto bismol pink isn’t my best color and should not be a part of my beauty routine. i just wish i had known that earlier, but what’s a young preteen to do…

summer beauty

these masks from sephora are great and an affordable alternative to a lot of the more expensive options in the market (rose and pearl are my favorite)

sometimes a flick of eyeliner is all you need, especially when paired with mascara and a glossy nude or bright lip

i stick to the first six shades of this palette during the summer and use it for both day and night looks

this contour kit is one of my favorites thanks to its bronzing and highlighting options

laura mercier’s tinted moisturizer is a staple in my routine

i’ve been using this mascara recently and love its fluttery effect

kat von d’s liquid lipsticks in outlaw and bachelorette are a constant in my makeup bag and dress up any outfit (especially outlaw, which is a gorgeous red)

urban decay’s ultra nourishing gloss in walk of shame (a pretty, sheer nude) is the lip product i’m always grabbing and constantly reapplying

this primer keeps my face fresh and moisturized, which is a plus during hot weather

all dramatics aside, i am not a fan of the kind of heat that makes you feel like you’re melting. this is the type of heat where the air feels soupy, your hair is a lost cause, and wearing makeup seems like a straight up no-go. i’ve gotten to the point where the makeup i wear is as minimal as possible, doesn’t feel like it’s even on my face, and doesn’t melt off. these are my staples and pretty much make wearing makeup in 96 degree weather, surrounded by people on new york streets, not so bad.

beauty faves

bite matte creme lip crayon in aubergine is unreal  // maybelline the nudes palette (i use it more than urban decay’s naked) // l’oreal nude ballet lipgloss is one of my favorite natural lip colors // urban decay perversion mascara is next level // benefit’s gimme brow is great if you don’t want anything too intense // makeup for ever’s aqua liner in black is the best liquid liner i’ve used // nars cruising lipstick is the best nude // perfekt skin perfection gel is “perfekt” (sorry i had to) // mac cubic blush is my go-to for natural flush // tarte lively is worth it, trust me

if you couldn’t tell by the name of my blog, i love makeup. when i was younger i played with makeup more than any little girl should, and once youtube videos started featuring makeup tutorials i watched them all the time, kind of obsessively. i’ve definitely mentioned on here that i used to post makeup tutorials on polyvore, but that is something i will not be revealing, you’ll have to find those on your own. i’m saving you all from that, like that time i did black swan (really cool, but really extreme). since i can remember i’ve wanted to work in the cosmetic industry, even if i didn’t know what that would entail when i was younger, but these past two summers i’ve interned for l’oreal and loved it. when i applied to georgetown’s business school it was through a paper on the beauty industry and its global influence. random, i know, but it’s my thing. i think you would expect me to always have my makeup done, but i can promise you i’m the opposite. all i need is mascara and my favorite lip product and i’m good to go for class. that doesn’t mean i don’t like different products and looks… i definitely do, ask my mom, but at this point i know what products i love and are my “holy grail” go-to’s.
