last month i made the jump to instagram. yes, instagram. this may seem like it isn’t a big deal, but it has very much taken over a small (or significant) part of my life. i promise i won’t allow myself to enter the mindset where i can’t do something without instagraming it first, but it goes without saying that somehow instagram makes everything look better. that outfit you take a photo of suddenly becomes THAT OUTFIT, even if it isn’t that special… nothing wrong with a little deceiving though!

being a college student in washington, d.c. has its many perks, especially for the political crowd. even though i avoid politics as much as i can (anti-dc i know), that doesn’t mean i don’t appreciate the area i’m in and the opportunities dc presents. on the night of the election, you could have caught me running (or seriously struggling due to shoe choice) to the white house with the majority of georgetown’s student population…as the saying goes “when in rome do as the romans do.” it’s fitting then that i attended my first ever inauguration yesterday, wearing the same shoes mind you (once again a horrible decision, but more on that later). i woke up at 5.30, put on my warmest clothes, wrapped myself in a blanket and made the trek down to the capitol. being cold was an understatement, but i managed to get a little nap in, finish some homework (clearly had my priorities straight), and then the inauguration began. it was one of the coolest, most amazing things i’ve ever done, and i have the wreckage my feet have become as proof of that. i’d share some more details, but i figure i’d spare you all.. now for what’s really important, i am currently coping with the revelation that beyoncé was caught lip synching. i will say it now, and i will say it again, long live the queen (or queen b).

there are certain ways to gauge whether or not i happen to be tired. some of the signs are: falling asleep in my 12.30 pm class, typing words that i thought were english but happen to be my own dialect (it’s not impressive, it’s discouraging..), dreaming about chai lattes, etc. the biggest indicator that i’m tired is my ability to get dressed. yes, get dressed. obviously i always put on clothes, but the amount of thought which i put into my outfits depends on how rested i feel. i may have an outfit idea the night before (which might make me feel like a fashion maverick), but as soon as i wake up the next morning, bright and early at 7 am, i find myself grumbling about the state of my life. next thing i know i’m grabbing a pair of workout leggings, flats, and a sweater. still acceptable, but not what i originally had planned. so i found a few photos which i will look to for comfy-chic class inspiration, but i plan on downplaying a few of the combinations… can’t get too ambitious, now can we?

this past summer, i introduced you all to bucky. since his creation he has been an important presence in my life. yes, he may be a cardboard deer with glitter antlers, but he’s become a room mascot/watchdog (watchdeer?). excuse the stupid jokes, but they’re going to keep coming. this past break i decided the family needed to grow, and i made mama buck, so even though the cycle should have been reversed and mama should have come first, there’s no changing it now! currently mama buck is residing in the good ol’ state of new york, but next school year she’ll be making a trip down to dc. unless my roommates let me bring a moose with some necklaces into the mix…and his name shall be bullwinkle.

i’ve decided i’m the kind of person who may have my analytical side, but i have a creative half that balances it right out. whenever i take those quizzes asking if i’m left or right brained, i end up right in the middle. this classification isn’t exactly a classification, more a confirmation (even if these tests aren’t exact) in my mind at least, that i’m a good mix of different things. although i love making cards, decor, and little trinkets, i can’t stand having anything out of place or being unorganized. my organizational tendencies come in handy, but there are times i’ve gotta keep my perfectionistic quirks in check. when i head back to school, you can bet your bottom dollar (yes, i just said that) i will be making a paper source run and adding some new goodies to my crafting area (a.k.a. the desk i should be using to do homework). so many things on the internet inspire me to create, and i hope one day my blog will do that for others. to finish this post off, in the words of jack london, “you can’t wait for inspiration, you have to go after it with a club.”

this is coming a day late, but to everyone who celebrates christmas i hope yesterday was a wonderful day. i spent it with family, curled up in front of the fire, watching basketball games and christmas movies… (shoutout to the knicks, we were so close boys!) now i just have my fingers crossed that we do get this snowstorm.. it’s never too late for a white christmas!

today i implore all of you to hug your family, your friends, anyone that means something to you. cherish them and embrace them, because life is fleeting and everything can change in an instant. this is a tragedy and my heart breaks for everyone affected today. from the parent to the children who died, to a family member who lost someone, a friend who will never see their friend again. at this time all we can do is pray that these wounds will one day heal, and that the hearts left broken will mend.

since the name of my blog involves lipstick i figured i have to include it in a post. to go along with that quote, i put together a few must-reads… some are favorites, some i’m re-reading, some i have yet to read, but all are recommended. yes, i matched lipstick to the books but don’t worry, they’re just some of my favorite shades. these shades also happen to remind me of the book they’re paired with, so i guess i have a color connection? pardon the cheesy joke…
