over the years i have accumulated a lot of lipsticks, and they’re something that i really like. scratch that, they’re something that i love. i will admit it took me a while to wear color outside of my house a.k.a. outside of doing makeup tutorials in my bathroom. it’s not something i always do (especially because i stick to my favorite nude colors, like mac faux or urban decay naked lipgloss), but there’s something special about a red lip. i know, i know, that sounds so cliched, but it’s true. red lipstick instantly transforms an outfit, and can help make you look put together… especially if you’re feeling otherwise. that little collage below are some of my favorites that are tried and true, and a post on red lips just seems like the perfect way to kick off february.

{ a little bit of new years jubilee }

i know that january isn’t over yet, but it’s getting pretty close to the end of the month. this weekend is going to be super busy, because it’s senior parents weekend at georgetown and i’m helping to plan it. i decided to jump the gun on this post, which hopefully isn’t a bad decision… who knows, i might even have enough photos from this weekend that i can do a separate post, but you’ll have to wait and see! while you wait, you should get ready for the best super bowl post ever. in the kingdom of ice: this tells the story of polar exploration during the gilded age and is supposed to be enthralling

a farewell to arms: an ernest hemingway classic set in world war I that i cannot wait to finally read

everything i never told you: when i tell you i could not put this down, i’m not being dramatic. i was up all night so i could finish it

empire of the summer moon: heard such great things about this book, and i love reading/learning about the american west, the frontier, manifest destiny, and native american culture (and its downfall at the hands of americans, which i don’t love…)

see how small: read the bio for this book, i promise it won’t disappoint

redeployment: a compilation of short stories featuring different perspectives of marines in the iraq war. i think military history and works of literature are so interesting, and this one was great

all the light we cannot see: this is one of the books that has been on my nightstand for the longest time and i really need to read it. i’ve heard way too many good things not to

the short and tragic life of robert peace: poignant, sad, but very much worth a read

california: you could buy this simply for the cover design

the yellow birds: another military read i need to finally read

to kill a mockingbird: the last time i read this book was in 8th grade, and i think right now would be a good time to re-read it

the boston girl: this book is right up my alley

we are not ourselves: i read the description for this one and i was hooked

fact: i love to read. a lot. when i was younger i would go through bags of books from the library and beg my mom to take me all the time. as i got older i asked my mom to take me to barnes and noble so i could buy books and start my own collection… which leads me to the point where i have three cases and have “coffee table books” all over my bedroom. i’ve also cleaned out my books so many times throughout the years that at this point i could have a baby library with the most random assortment of books. i love non-fiction, especially historical and autobiographical, fiction, short stories, everything. it’s all so good. some of the books above i’ve already read and plan on re-reading, like “to kill a mockingbird”, “redeployment” and “everything i never told you” were SUCH good books and i definitely recommend them. everything else i am getting ready to read or have started reading, so hopefully i have time to get through some of these.

right after posting my golden globes blurb my computer decided to die, first week back at school. so that’s great. my laptop was sent off by apple for repairs and hopefully i should get it back soon. i’ve been borrowing my roommate’s laptop (bless you, annie) and hopefully i get mine back soon so i can upload more posts that i have saved on my mac… which may or may not happen if everything is lost.

now that i started off with that intro, i’ll get to the real point of this upload. post-graduation i plan on doing a road trip across the u.s. with my friends, which has been on my bucket list for the longest time. my mom’s had this dream of taking an RV across the united states (which i still want to do, mom), but there are so many places and cities that i want to visit. i may or may not be a history freak and i love traveling and food, good food, so i’m more than excited for this trip. there will definitely be a lot of stops on this trip, but some musts include tennessee (memphis and nashville… elvis and johnny cash without a doubt influenced these choices), texas (austin), arizona (ghost towns and the grand canyon), and a number of other places. last spring break we road-tripped throughout the south and i got to see so much of louisiana and mississippi, and promptly fell in love with every place we visited. i’ve been using this website to do some research and pinterest to start organizing/planning, so expect some more posts on the post-graduation whirlwind adventure. (also, the duffel bag above seems pretty perfect for this trip)

the following ladies straight killed it at the golden globes awards last night. it was hard to narrow down my favorite pics, but i decided against having you all look at 20+ pictures… you’re welcome. i think the best way to look at the outfits from last nights awards is to do so while listening to “uptown funk”, because something about that combination just works. if i ever went to the golden globes i have a vision of the kind of dress i would wear (picture long sleeves, slit, v-neck or low back) that would hopefully not land me on the worst-dressed list. honestly though, this isn’t something i have to worry about. so until my “debut” at the golden globes, i can keep on dreaming.

this is the moment, extremely late at night, when i sit and wonder when this year came to an end and where december went. the past month has completely flown by and 2015 is basically hours away. i’ve been taking a little break from blogging while i’ve been home on break, but i will be getting back into the swing of things soon. so until then, this is december in a nutshell.
