so last night happened to one of the biggest nights of the year for the stars, and for the people who happen to stalk what the stars are wearing, aka me. this big night is know as the met gala, and the theme was PUNK: chaos to couture. with a theme like that you know people are going to bring in the big guns, and that they did. i have never seen so many spikes, rocker hairstyles and vampy lips, and i loved every second of it. there were a few more tame approaches, like ivanka trump, but i was still feeling her all-american approach to the punk look. plus if i was a blonde and wanted to get colored streaks, her hair would be the ultimate inspiration. i definitely had a few favorites from last night (as you can see below) that some may or may not agree with (i think anne rocked the bleached blonde hair), but i think we all can say that minka kelly straight up channeled a punk goddess. girl looked unbelievable, and i want to somehow find a way to wear my hair and makeup exactly the way she did. even though i most definitely do not look like her, there’s nothing like a little wishful thinking.

since the ripe ol’ age of 18 i have been an employee of j.crew, and i have been wearing the clothes since i was able to. i still remember the corduroy skirt with critter phase, the rainbow assortment of polos, and madras headbands. did i participate in these trends? you bet i did. looking back at this time in my life there’s a small part of me that cringes, but the other part recognizes the fact that j.crew has been there through it all. when i got older and learned more about the business and the inner workings i appreciated the brand so much more. from this appreciation grew a respect (or obsession) with mickey drexler and jenna lyons. they both stand as life/business/fashion role models for me, and any time there’s a chance they’re going to make a store visit i jump at the chance. i missed jenna’s visit last time… not a good time for me! anyhow, the way j.crew was turned around and made into a retail giant is crazy to see, especially from the point of view from someone like me, who has stuck with the brand since childhood. as a jcrew employee and a jenna devotee i definitely have a few tidbits saved here and there which serve as personal inspiration (try not to freak out over jenna’s office)… now it’s time to reveal them to the world (do you like the dramatics?)

so i will admit i’ve been mia, but i have an excuse. bronchitis has taken over my life, and the last two weeks have been hell. i am on antibiotics, steroids (not the muscle kind) and an inhaler, so life has gotten away from me a bit. i hope i start feeling better soon, but until then i’ve found a new pastime, or in other terms, gotten reacquainted with an old one. polyvore. i’ve mentioned on here that in my heyday i used to be a beauty tutorial girl on polyvore, but before that i did fashion sets. well, i’ve been using the site recently to make art sets, and i forgot how much i loved it. literally one of the coolest sites ever. so until next time i’ll leave you with some of my favorite sets… (i’m going to leave out the sets from my “MEGamakeupaddict” days and stick to my mylifeinlipstick phase)

first off, happy belated easter! christmas and i go hand in hand, but there is something super special about easter. it reminds me that spring is here (or should be) and bright colors can soon be worn freely. so last night while i got reacquainted aka straight up obsessed with pinterest i started creating boards and pinning and saving photos. i can already tell this is going to be an unhealthy addiction. so on my last night of break i’m going to call it a night early, but hopefully this rag tag group of photos can bring you some inspiration. p.s. if you’re in the area, ill be making those mini cakes pretty soon.

for a lot us baby bloggers as i like to call us, there are certain bloggers we look up to. typically the man repeller is a number one choice, along with cupcake and cashmere, and yadda yadda yadda. although i love them both, there’s a special place in my heart for the blogger sincerely, jules. pardon my french, but she is literally the shit. all of her outfits look amazing, yet seem so carefree and casual. putting together carefree and amazing isn’t something i’d using to define my style, like ever. if i don’t put thought into my outfit i throw on workout clothes, which makes me look athletic, but i know it’s all a lie, because i’m chilling in my room, not going to the gym… (don’t tell anyone) anyhow, everything jules puts together looks great, and when i first started following fashion blogs i constantly refreshed her site. even her instagram inspired me, but i waited a long time to jump on to that bandwagon. she definitely serves as a style inspiration and pushes me past the “east coast” look which is sometimes easy to fall into. now you won’t see me walking around in wedge sneakers, but i won’t lie when i say I’ve lusted after a pair or two… if you guys don’t become obsessed with her, then you have a serious problem (see what i did there?).

there is one thing i love and hate about dc: the weather. it is constantly changing, and i really can’t keep up. at least back in ny, it’s always cold in the winter. i know it, i’m used to it, i expect (and my mom is from the midwest a.k.a. loves the cold), so i love it too. the difference in dc is that one day it’s sunny and warm, the next it’s monsooning, and the next cold and windy. no joke, this has happened this week, and it gives me whiplash. i love that dc gets warm really early, but i don’t love not being ready for the weather. i almost started spring cleaning yesterday to put all my sweaters away, but thank god i didn’t. today i was straight up shivering on my way to my morning class, cursing myself for making the decision to wear leggings and moccasins. so i guess i can begin fantasizing (no, no that kind) about spring weather and breaking out spring clothes, but until then i’ll just look at them online, and keep on dreaming. shout out to calypso st barth for having some amazing new arrivals, but i hate to break it to ya, you guys won’t be taking my money… (that’s a funny joke, who am i kidding, i have no self-restraint)

so realistically speaking, i should be commenting on the best dresses at the oscars, which there were many of. instead i chose to do something different, which is something i always seem to be doing.. sorry, can’t help it! you know how different writers and artists have muses? well maybe in some weird alternative universe i could be robert frost’s muse, because that whole “i took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference” has meg written all over it. now these less traveled roads are not always the best of ideas, but it’s worth it to say you at least tried. okay, back to business, sorry for tangent-ing, per usual. my favorite dresses from oscar’s night actually showed up at the vanity fair after party, and i basically would have loved to attend, but i guess my invite got lost in the mail. it’s all good though, because next year i’ll so be ready, rocking a unique dress, making robert proud.

there are certain ways to gauge whether or not i happen to be tired. some of the signs are: falling asleep in my 12.30 pm class, typing words that i thought were english but happen to be my own dialect (it’s not impressive, it’s discouraging..), dreaming about chai lattes, etc. the biggest indicator that i’m tired is my ability to get dressed. yes, get dressed. obviously i always put on clothes, but the amount of thought which i put into my outfits depends on how rested i feel. i may have an outfit idea the night before (which might make me feel like a fashion maverick), but as soon as i wake up the next morning, bright and early at 7 am, i find myself grumbling about the state of my life. next thing i know i’m grabbing a pair of workout leggings, flats, and a sweater. still acceptable, but not what i originally had planned. so i found a few photos which i will look to for comfy-chic class inspiration, but i plan on downplaying a few of the combinations… can’t get too ambitious, now can we?

i love this quote, plain and simple. sometimes in life you can try to make everyone happy, please everyone, but in the end you yourself won’t be happy, or true to yourself. finals are coming up (along with christmas!!) but during this time i need to take these words to heart. it may be a bit straightforward, but it gets the point across.

so as an ode to “following your intuition” here is a tribute to shoes, and legs, and walking in the literal sense, but try to envision the figurative message i’m trying to convey..

for me, the end of november signals the end of fall, and all the crisp leaves and autumnal colors that come with it. although winter technically doesn’t arrive until the 21st of december, as soon as december 1st hits i’m in complete winter/holiday mode (which you all will soon see). those famous words immortalized through the outsiders, robert frost’s words may seem ominous, but in reality it’s how you choose to interpret these words.. and i believe there comes a time for us to move on, and accept change, even though it may not be easy.
