 as i write this i’m curled up in bed with this candle burning and i couldn’t be more comfortable. being home for the holidays is the best, and since christmas is my favorite holiday it’s the best of both worlds. there are a few ways i love to spend my christmas break and the majority of them involve lounging around…

{ making gingersnaps }

one of my favorite things to do is bake, and baking gingersnaps tops the list. i make them once a year, in an abundant amount, and eat way more dough than i should.

{ watching christmas movies }

i’ve already watched the santa clause, but there a lot more on my list. i love christmas movies ( and music ), and am ready to watch a lot more… a whole lot more.

this does not need much explanation, but curling up on the couch in front of the fire is the best. add in one of the books i want to read over break, and we’re good to go.

{ enjoying eggnog }

eggnog is pretty polarizing. i feel like people love it or hate it, and i tend to love it, but in small amounts. i saw a recipe the other day for brown butter cinnamon rolls with eggnog icing and i can’t wait to try it out.

it sounds clichéd, but new york during the holidays is simply magical. there’s something so special, more special than usual, and it’s one of my favorite places to be during this time of the year.

{ catching up on tv shows }

i try to stay caught up on a lot of shows during the school year, but at the moment i’m catching up on the newsroom, vikings, and masters of sex

not a lot of explanation needed here, but i made a gingerbread house today that has become my pride and joy. just kidding, that’s super dramatic, but i really do love it. it looks like a log cabin, and you’ll be seeing photos on here soon! along with other photos from the month of december, which are staring to pile up…

there is something special about heading home on amtrak whenever i have breaks from school. as i mentioned a few posts back, it’s insane that thanksgiving is already here, but i really do love going home. being with my family and relaxing at home while watching movies in front of the fire may be one of the best things in the world. i’m very close to my family (shoutout to my mom, who always tell me i don’t blog about her enough) and i love them like crazy. i can’t wait to go home and see them, eat an egg sandwich or two, sleep in every day and not just on saturday, wear comfy clothes, and go into the city with friends, but there’s something else about returning home… i really do miss new york when i’m gone, both the city and long island. i grew up so close to the city and since my grandparents lived there we always visited. new york has always been my second home and i still feel that way. whenever my train approaches the city and i see the new york skyline, the feeling i get is hard to explain; a mix of happiness and nostalgia, excitement and wonder, all-in-all it’s something that i cherish. i think john steinbeck said it best, “once you have live in new york and made it your home, no place else is good enough.”

tumblr_mkik09TD5b1qd06o9o1_500first off, happy belated easter! christmas and i go hand in hand, but there is something super special about easter. it reminds me that spring is here (or should be) and bright colors can soon be worn freely. so last night while i got reacquainted aka straight up obsessed with pinterest i started creating boards and pinning and saving photos. i can already tell this is going to be an unhealthy addiction. so on my last night of break i’m going to call it a night early, but hopefully this rag tag group of photos can bring you some inspiration. p.s. if you’re in the area, ill be making those mini cakes pretty soon.

this past weekend my girlfriends and i slipped away to new york for the weekend before the upcoming hell week known as midterms. after multiple arrival times (some getting in closer to 1 am on saturday morning), we all trekked into the city, pulling off a gracefulness i didn’t know was possible… if you noted any sarcasm in the last sentence, you’re correct, i felt like a bag lady. either way, this past weekend was one of the best of my life. we traveled the whole entire city, visiting beloved new york spots, got a taste of new york night life (which won’t be mentioned here, other than the fact that nicknames were made due to our nightlife experiences), stuffed ourselves with food, and shopped only a little bit, i swear! one thing i did appreciate was being able to experience true winter weather, bone-biting cold and all, but i can’t say that my west coast and southern friends felt the same, especially after “losing” their coats a.k.a they were stolen. so in typical cheesy fashion, in the words of frank sinatra “it’s up to you, new york, new york”, and after this weekend i congratulate you new york on fulfilling your duty as the greatest city in the world.
