{ shake shack is my biggest weakness… but the chicken sandwich is beyond worth it }

there are a lot of things that i write on this blog about that i love. one that i haven’t covered as much is food, and i think it’s about time it gets some love. i am lucky to live in a city that has countless options for amazing places to eat (along with options to grab a 3 a.m. snack when out and about…). there are countless markets that i would recommend making a stop at (gotham west market, urbanspace, and chelsea market to name a few), but you’ll never be at a loss for a great bagel, something to satisfy your sweet tooth, a slice of pizza, or even a salad if you want to get healthy.

march has come and gone in a blink of an eye, and graduation announcement emails have been steadily coming into my inbox. with these emails comes a whole lot of nostalgia, a sprinkle of disbelief, a tad bit of excitement, and a heaping of what happened to the last four years? until my next post, here’s march through some instagram snapshots.

baking, blogging, cooking, for love and lemons, lifestyle blog, new york

tumblr_n8gsaxGby31rvqm6lo1_1280

 as a person who is kind of addicted to lip balm, i love this one.

mumford and sons’ new album is coming out soon and they’re going on tour… so my high school-self and current-self are freaking out.

age of ultron cannot come out sooner. hello new trailers.

i absolutely love this for love & lemons dress.

you should check out these unique maps of america.

i really want to make these salted caramel cookies.

mac and cheese is my favorite comfort food, so this list is great.

these vans are A+.

one of the best dresses i have ever owned.

i am 100% making these mini pizzas.

i need to check out this restaurant next time i’m home.

most importantly, a friend of mine has been accepted into a masters program to study international business. i met him when we were both visiting georgetown as high school seniors, and he is an all-around really good guy. if you have the ability to donate and help him attend school, or want to learn more about his story, check it out here.

march state of the unionspring is finally here and my current “favorites” reflect that. i can finally hang up my winter jacket (hopefully there won’t be freak weather) and put my timbs into storage, and break out some sandals, ripped jeans and white t-shirts (a.k.a. my spring wardrobe).

what i’m eating | sweetgreen is right down the block from my apartment, and now that spring is here i will start getting way more frozen yogurt than i should. soon strawberries will be back and i’ll be adding them to my favorite salad (spinach, romaine, sweet potatoes, chickpeas, avocado, roasted broccoli, pita chips, goat cheese, chicken and balsamic dressing).

what i’m listening to | i can listen to mumford and sons all the time. this isn’t an exaggeration… senior year of high school i listened to their album every single day while working on our yearbook. their new album is coming out soon, and while it has a different sound, i couldn’t be more excited. check out their new song here.

what i’m reading | i absolutely love to bake, and collecting cookbooks definitely fuels my love. there are a few cookbooks that i want to get, but ovenly seems great. just take a look at the cover, and i think you’ll agree.

what i’m watching | i wanted to see wild while it was in theaters, but that didn’t happen. so instead i’ve been waiting for it to be released, and now that it’s finally out i can watch it.

what i’m wearing | i have been wearing this perfume now that it’s warmer out, this nude lip balm, and this ring.

what i’m lusting after | sandals are coming back into my life, and i really like these ones.

{ saint patrick’s day circa 1938 in new york }

behind christmas and thanksgiving, saint patrick’s day is one of my favorite holidays. growing up my mom would wake us all up with green orange juice and pancakes and we’d head off to school decked out in green bows, ready to see what the leprechauns had done to our classrooms. dinner would always be corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, and soda bread, the irish tenors playing throughout our house, and i was in heaven. my mom’s maiden name is dempsey (meaning proud in irish), and being half irish is something that i am proud of. see what i did there? it’s something that has been apparent in my catholic school saints projects (almost all of them were on saint patrick), my desire to one day visit ireland (a.k.a. the homeland), and my love for irish cuisine. i even tried out the whole irish step dancing thing when i was little, but i couldn’t tell my left from my right at the age of 4, so that endeavor ended pretty quickly. to make up for not being able to jig, i was (and am) able to get in touch with my roots through a little bit of cooking. one of my favorite things to make is corned beef, soda bread, and mashed potatoes with roasted carrots, but there’s nothing like something sweet. guinness chocolate cake with bailey’s irish cream cheese frosting is a game changer. if you’re in the mood to get cooking today, i recommend some of the food below.

on a final note, danny boy and the parting glass have a very special place in my heart, and i have them on repeat today. i used to sing danny boy with my mom’s mom, who almost always celebrated saint patrick’s day with us, whether we went to visit my grandparents in the city or if they came to long island to see us. to me she’ll always be here “in sunshine or in shadow” and this song reminds me of that.

baking, christmas, cooking, eggnog, gingersnaps, holiday season, holidays, new york city

tumblr_ngjuqwphLy1shcqiqo1_1280

 as i write this i’m curled up in bed with this candle burning and i couldn’t be more comfortable. being home for the holidays is the best, and since christmas is my favorite holiday it’s the best of both worlds. there are a few ways i love to spend my christmas break and the majority of them involve lounging around…

{ making gingersnaps }

one of my favorite things to do is bake, and baking gingersnaps tops the list. i make them once a year, in an abundant amount, and eat way more dough than i should.

{ watching christmas movies }

i’ve already watched the santa clause, but there a lot more on my list. i love christmas movies ( and music ), and am ready to watch a lot more… a whole lot more.

tumblr_mxtsrivJgX1reuu7no1_400{ reading in front of the fire }

this does not need much explanation, but curling up on the couch in front of the fire is the best. add in one of the books i want to read over break, and we’re good to go.

{ enjoying eggnog }

eggnog is pretty polarizing. i feel like people love it or hate it, and i tend to love it, but in small amounts. i saw a recipe the other day for brown butter cinnamon rolls with eggnog icing and i can’t wait to try it out.

tumblr_mxuhaqvOfY1raw451o1_1280{ venturing throughout the city }

it sounds clichéd, but new york during the holidays is simply magical. there’s something so special, more special than usual, and it’s one of my favorite places to be during this time of the year.

{ catching up on tv shows }

i try to stay caught up on a lot of shows during the school year, but at the moment i’m catching up on the newsroom, vikings, and masters of sex

9728ad46bf90e904f429536e1711f9e8{ spending a lot of time baking and decorating }

not a lot of explanation needed here, but i made a gingerbread house today that has become my pride and joy. just kidding, that’s super dramatic, but i really do love it. it looks like a log cabin, and you’ll be seeing photos on here soon! along with other photos from the month of december, which are staring to pile up…

IMG_8276 (1)my relationship with cooking is similar to the relationship that noah and allie have in the notebook… it’s something that’s just meant to be. sorry for how cheesy that was, but i’ve always wanted to use that as a comparison. for example, in fifth grade we were supposed to imagine what our future would be like and create a drawing to go with it. i drew myself in a doctor’s coat, working in a bakery, and holding a georgetown diploma in one hand. obviously a drawing that was completely realistic. so far i’m 1 for 3 on those counts (or since i’m still studying at georgetown it might be 0 for 3), and the doctor thing is probably not going to happen since i gave that dream up junior year of high school. who knows about the bakery though… maybe i can hit 2 for 3. before i start rambling, even though i’ve basically already started, i’m going to get to the point. i made one of the most delicious things i’ve ever had in my life thanks to this recipe. there were some issues with the recipe (due to the fact that i’m a college student), like when i used a meat tenderizer to mash cauliflower because we don’t have a potato masher… so that was fun. but seriously, this one is definitely worth trying.photo 1

baking, cherry blossoms, cooking, cupcakes, fondant, georgetown, georgetown university, washington d.c.

cherry-blossoms-2MTrecently i have been missing georgetown quite a bit. i love my school and the area, and there are those moments where i wish i could be walking past the surrounding townhouses on my way down to m street. for the weekend of the fourth i headed on down to dc and i could have stayed longer, but it definitely was what i needed. before i get completely sidetracked i decided to make some cupcakes and happened to be inspired by my little trip.

1. if you ever have the chance to visit dc, make sure to visit the georgetown area. just walk around and i promise you’ll love it.

2. one of the best times to visit dc is during the cherry blossom season.

3. everyone talks about georgetown cupcake and sprinkles, but baked + wired is where it’s at.
