tomorrow i am heading back to good ol’ long island. there’s something so nice about going back home, eating your favorite food, seeing family, and watching more tv/movies than you should. even though it’s only a few days, in typical “meg fashion” i’ve made a little list of things i need to do, and what my family plans to do before my brother and i head back to school. this list has been deemed blog-worthy, for whatever reason i don’t know, but i figured i would introduce you all to my version of long island living.

1. get a bacon, egg and cheese on a roll and a large half & half

2. head out east and go fishing in montauk

3. stay up way too late watching sons of anarchy and the on the run special

4. bake an insane amount of cookies, specifically gingersnaps

5. curl up in front of the fireplace with the pups

6. buy fall decorations (PRIORITIES!!!)

7. relax with the family, eat chinese food, and watch movies

8. walk along the bay with my mama

9. shake shack and late night movies with the best friend

10. and most of all, just enjoy being home

photo 3-2if you can’t tell already, that photo above is my bed. my comfy bed (pre-pillows and throw blanket) that gets destroyed every night when i go to sleep. i really don’t know what happens once i fall asleep, but blankets end up on the ground, pillows cover my face… basically, i’m a crazy sleeper plus i sleep really late, so it’s just a great combination all around. i do love decorating though, and this love has also applied to all my college bedrooms. my roommate and i both love our senior year bedroom, and as we phrase it, “it’s got the vibes.” my side’s got some of my favorites featured in wall art: the breakfast club, inslee, and johnny cash. three very important things. the little shelving unit next to my bed cost $30 and was really easy to set up (except for the fact i didn’t have half the tools to do it); it’s perfect for holding my school books and random books i’m reading, my notebooks, photos, makeup, and the tray. the tray is italicized, because it’s special to me. i keep my glasses, water bottle, favorite candle, lotions, my inslee calendar and pens and pencils up there… all the basics. last, but not least i use the top of my dresser for more makeup storage, jewelry and some other little “organizational displays.”

if you couldn’t tell by the name of my blog, i love makeup. when i was younger i played with makeup more than any little girl should, and once youtube videos started featuring makeup tutorials i watched them all the time, kind of obsessively. i’ve definitely mentioned on here that i used to post makeup tutorials on polyvore, but that is something i will not be revealing, you’ll have to find those on your own. i’m saving you all from that, like that time i did black swan (really cool, but really extreme). since i can remember i’ve wanted to work in the cosmetic industry, even if i didn’t know what that would entail when i was younger, but these past two summers i’ve interned for l’oreal and loved it. when i applied to georgetown’s business school it was through a paper on the beauty industry and its global influence. random, i know, but it’s my thing. i think you would expect me to always have my makeup done, but i can promise you i’m the opposite. all i need is mascara and my favorite lip product and i’m good to go for class. that doesn’t mean i don’t like different products and looks… i definitely do, ask my mom, but at this point i know what products i love and are my “holy grail” go-to’s.

IMG_8276 (1)my relationship with cooking is similar to the relationship that noah and allie have in the notebook… it’s something that’s just meant to be. sorry for how cheesy that was, but i’ve always wanted to use that as a comparison. for example, in fifth grade we were supposed to imagine what our future would be like and create a drawing to go with it. i drew myself in a doctor’s coat, working in a bakery, and holding a georgetown diploma in one hand. obviously a drawing that was completely realistic. so far i’m 1 for 3 on those counts (or since i’m still studying at georgetown it might be 0 for 3), and the doctor thing is probably not going to happen since i gave that dream up junior year of high school. who knows about the bakery though… maybe i can hit 2 for 3. before i start rambling, even though i’ve basically already started, i’m going to get to the point. i made one of the most delicious things i’ve ever had in my life thanks to this recipe. there were some issues with the recipe (due to the fact that i’m a college student), like when i used a meat tenderizer to mash cauliflower because we don’t have a potato masher… so that was fun. but seriously, this one is definitely worth trying.photo 1

let me start this off by saying that i haven’t done one of these types of posts in a very long time. i don’t even remember the last time i did a “day in the life”, a.k.a. throwing a bunch of instagram photos together that capture a small part of my life. the other day i was thinking about how much i used to love doing these, so i figured i should start it up again. this time with something a little bit different. actually, a lot different. a photo of me, kinda. i’ve never actually posted a photo of myself on here and don’t really have a reason why, but here we go. i guess if i really want to do this blogging thing, i have to unveil “the face behind the site”… so shield your eyes and prepare yourselves. jokes, i’m not that scary… only a little bit.

i’m not afraid to admit i can get a little bit crazy about certain things, and one of these certain things is decorating. ambiance is where it’s at. such a cheesy line, but for me, it’s true. at the end of the day, whether it’s been spent at work or in classes, a seriously comfy bed with way too many pillows (something i’m guilty of), candles, and mason jars filled with flowers are a few things you will find in my bedroom. also there may or may not be an elvis coffee table book somewhere in there… once everything is all set up i will be posting photos of my room at school and my room at home, but i still need to finish up some finishing touches. so until then i’ll leave you all with photos that give me some “woman cave” inspiration (even if it happens to be food or people, they still count!)

being a bag lady

school bagimagine this scenario… day one of classes my bag is neatly organized filled with all of my essentials, as you can see in the picture above. by week two or three my bag is either completely overstuffed and causing me back problems or it’s totally underpacked and i’m missing a water bottle or a notebook or even the key to my apartment (not good). currently i’m at the stage where my bag is stocked and i have everything i need, but who knows how much longer that will last. for the time being, these are a few of the things i keep in my school bag:

my favorite planner (i go back to it year after year) // the best notebooks i’ve used // my  favorite pens // my go-to breakfast when i’m racing to class // the best perfume to use throughout the day // this water bottle is a godsend // portable chargers are always necessary // the keychain that keeps me from getting locked out // my favorite natural lip product in madeira (and it’s moisturizing too, which is a win)

photo-8i’m back at georgetown for my senior year… seriously when did that happen? more than just when, but how? it seemed like yesterday it was the summer before my freshman year of college and i was making my way through every episode of “sex and the city”, imagining how i wanted my life to be. i had this scenario of how i thought everything was going to be and how i wanted to channel different characters as i started off this whole new chapter. i know, i know, such a cliché, but it’s what to be expected from someone like me. now that i’m in my last first semester and in my senior year i don’t really know where the time went. the girl who was watching “sex and the city” before starting georgetown seems like a totally different person than who i am today and i’m more than okay with that. i may have had this idea of what i wanted my college life to be like and some of it came true and some of it was different than i expected and so far i love how it worked out. there have been ups and downs (especially this past summer) and every moment has made me who i am. yes that last line sounds like something you’d read on a hallmark card, but i love cheesy lines and it couldn’t be more true. so here i am starting my senior year and watching the series finale of satc as i write this blog post, which seems very fitting, and i decided to finish up with a very cheesy carrie line… “as we drive along this road called life, occasionally a gal will find herself a little lost. and when that happens, i guess she has to let go of the could, shoulda, woulda, buckle up and just keep going.”
