6a00d83451595d69e20120a6fe7499970b-800wiwithin some of my wildest hopes and dreams is my desire to one day attend a show at new york fashion week… while looking at photos of different shows is great, and it may cause uncontrollable envy and serious clothing lust, being at a show is still something i would love to experience. since i’m in college in a place that doesn’t happen to be in new york and since i don’t have any invites, it’s not like i even have an option to attend. but STILL, a girl can dream.

instead of doing school work i spent a good amount of time stalking some of my favorite designers and seeing which had looks i can’t seem to forget. i easily could have included way too many pictures, and things could have gotten out of hand, but i decided to narrow it down to a few shows: rebecca minkoff, mara hoffman, and j.crew. hope you all become just as obsessed as i am! (but really)

rebecca minkoff:

if i could do that emoji with the heart eyes i would… because this combination is everything.

and last, but not least, mara hoffman:

obsessed.

9/11, america, courage, great gatsby, nation, new york, remembrance

tumblr_mb6mzzt4mW1rd7epgo1_500sometimes i sit for ages, trying to figure out what to title a post. today is one of those days where i feel my title describes exactly how i feel. it’s a snippet of a line from the great gatsby by f. scott fitzgerald, but if you know the rest of the quote and you keep reading, i think you’ll understand why i chose it.

twelve years ago today, worlds were turned upside down, and lives were changed forever. i come from a small town on long island, a commuter town, and the majority of residents head into the city every single day. twelve years ago today my hometown lost almost fifty residents, and it’s something that will forever be a part of the legacy of my little long island town.

it seems like yesterday when i was at recess talking to one of my friends, trying to reassure her that her dad would be okay even though he worked in the twin towers. i had no idea if he truly was okay, but i did as much reassuring as a third grader could. i remember watching the news with my friends, while our moms were sitting together talking about things i couldn’t even begin to process at that age. i remember being at recess a few days later when smoke started seeping onto the field, and the teachers had to huddle all the children inside, attempting to keep us calm. i remember the masses we prayed at, the memorial services we attended, and the period of waiting. i still remember the waiting… my dad waiting to hear about his friends, and me at a young age asking where certain people were, not realizing that such a simple question could cause so much pain.

there are certain moments that stay with us forever, and for me 9/11 is one of them. no matter how many years pass or how young i was, there are things you don’t forget, and even at a young age i understood that. as a country we seem to forever be in the process of moving forward, but our past will always be a part of us.

bday13if you guys don’t already, i most definitely recommend that you start following the blog, love taza. it follows the davis family: mom, dad and two little bubbas, eleanor and samson. i kid you not these children are some of the cutest i have ever seen, and they make me want to return to my days of babysitting and camp counseling. they are always smiling and happy, and i have a feeling it has something to do with their too cool for school mama. if i could be half as coo/amazing a mom as taza then i’ll be doing something right (this won’t be for awhile though, still in college!!) anyways the whole point of this post was to show the amazing 1st birthday party samson had. it was new york themed and although it was for a baby, i most definitely would love to have the same kind of party, but with some more “adult” things. bday05bday60bday11bday14bday71bday08bday61

carrie bradshaw, new york, sex and the city

Image

for the past few days i’ve been in the city, learning the tricks of the trade for my summer internship, and like many others i’ve been trying to channel my inner carrie bradshaw. the summer before my first year of college i watched every single episode of sex and the city. i was hooked. i’d start a new episode and feel like i was seeing how my future could be; i’ve always wanted to live in the city, i love writing, i love fashion, and i love my friends, so i saw my life quasi-mirrored in the show (emphasis on quasi). somehow this show gave new york city a new type of allure (not that it didn’t have enough already). to me this quote from tom wolfe is perfect, “one belongs to new york instantly, one belongs to it as much in five minutes as in five years”, and i could see carrie saying it, because it couldn’t be more true. let alone amplify my love for the city, satc helped fix my pre-college freakout. i kid you not, there were nights i’d lie awake wondering if i’d make friends, if i’d do well… basically flat out panicking, but then i’d watch a few episodes and bam, i would sleep like a baby. so on the 15th anniversary i’d like to thank sex and the city, and especially carrie bradshaw, for helping me create my own “young woman taking on new york” vision of my future. who knows if i’m a carrie, but hopefully by being a meg (a.k.a moi) whatever happens to me will be just as amazing (pardon me for being cheesy, but i have to speak the truth).

*also this was meant to go up yesterday, so this is a belated anniversary post. also satc: the movie is on tv right now, which i think is a serendipitous sign. *

grilled shrimp, leopard, new york, reading, summer, summer reading, white eyelet

photo 1the temperature has finally changed and it is hot as hell, but in the words of icona pop, i don’t care, i love it. with this heat comes a change in clothing, aka i only have been wearing light-colored clothes or white, because i will sweat (or pass out) in anything else. the amount of white clothing i have is ridiculous, but at least i acknowledge it and put it to good use. i’ll be starting work on monday (which i am so excited about), and i’ve been trying to get some cooking in beforehand. if you know me, you know that i love seafood, and once the summer rolls around i can’t get enough of it. i’ve recently discovered grilled shrimp marinated in beer and old bay seasoning, and it is one of the easiest/best recipes ever. ever (huge claim i know, but i promise it’s the best). since it’s extremely hot i’ve been sending dramatic snapchats about the heat (my dog is the star of many of them), making quite a few runs for starbucks for passion iced tea lemonades,  and heading into the city whenever i get the chance. if you can experience new york in the summer (when the heat doesn’t make you feel like you have to stay inside) i highly encourage it. so until my next post i’ll leave you with some pictures of summer so far (and maybe even a gratuitous selfie, just because).photo 3

hi there, it's me, meg. this happened to be snapchat.. which was later captioned with riding dirty (something i clearly wasn't doing)..

tumblr_mlgmhpKjbS1qa9ddao1_500i am back in good ol’ new york, and finally i feel like i can sleep! while unpacking my room i have also been preparing for a new job, so it’s been nothing short of busy. not to mention i injured my hand so it is currently wrapped in a little cast, making typing not too easy. once my room is done (i’ll post about it) i can finally feel settled in. one of the upsides of coming home is feeling like you don’t have to dress up, basically it’s okay to live in workout pants and t-shirts. i’ve realized i need to break this pattern and fast, so here are some outfits i am absolutely loving. (this also took me forever to type, i miss my fully functioning hand) tumblr_mlwtm4H1sK1qa3sufo1_500tumblr_mla3r5ZHR71qahe9so1_500-1tumblr_mgn1lpXUkn1qa3sufo1_500-1tumblr_mjxbu0swM51qbya53o1_500-1tumblr_mkc49o9fht1qzdcn0o1_500

tumblr_mh6snwbF741qd3bpyo1_500so i made it home for spring break, and have definitely taken this week as a chance to unwind, work out and lay in bed listening to stay by rihanna (no joke). see how i threw work out in there between relaxing? it makes me seem athletic and fit, but in reality i’m capable of sleeping until 2 pm. mind you, post-workout i literally feel like i’m incapable of breathing… plus, i look super pretty right after i get off the treadmill. anyways, the focus of this post is on the color red. i used to be averse to wearing it, but i always loved it. i also had an obsession with red lipstick which i never attempted to try until the lipstick chili flake (sold at j.crew) came into my life. if there has been anything the color red has taught me, it’s to not be afraid to take risks, because sometimes they work out (and yes, sometimes they don’t) and when they do it feels great. i feel like red can make almost anything BAM, so i found pictures which seem pretty BAM to me. yeah, i just made BAM an adjective, just go with it?

tumblr_mazbw61E9z1rgeq4lo1_500

this past weekend my girlfriends and i slipped away to new york for the weekend before the upcoming hell week known as midterms. after multiple arrival times (some getting in closer to 1 am on saturday morning), we all trekked into the city, pulling off a gracefulness i didn’t know was possible… if you noted any sarcasm in the last sentence, you’re correct, i felt like a bag lady. either way, this past weekend was one of the best of my life. we traveled the whole entire city, visiting beloved new york spots, got a taste of new york night life (which won’t be mentioned here, other than the fact that nicknames were made due to our nightlife experiences), stuffed ourselves with food, and shopped only a little bit, i swear! one thing i did appreciate was being able to experience true winter weather, bone-biting cold and all, but i can’t say that my west coast and southern friends felt the same, especially after “losing” their coats a.k.a they were stolen. so in typical cheesy fashion, in the words of frank sinatra “it’s up to you, new york, new york”, and after this weekend i congratulate you new york on fulfilling your duty as the greatest city in the world.

lo-and-sons-bags-travel-camera-bags-i’m going to be a bit m.i.a. due to finals, so to tide you all over until the next post (and to give me something nice to look at), here are some wonderful holiday photos. i don’t mind the lead up to finals, because i tend to either study for long periods of time and then procrastinate/bake for the rest. sea salted chocolate chip cookies, anyone? yes, this  may be productively procrastinating, but what’s a girl to do?gold-glitter-nail-polish-button-london-west-end-wonderland-cupofjo-blog-polishIMG_4886NewYorkChristmasLightsgingerbread-candy-prepdiy_craft_glitter_holiday_cards_1

home, new york, relax, rest, thanksgiving

being home is one of the best feelings in the whole entire world. minus the fact i had wisdom teeth removal surgery yesterday (which is not fun, at all) and am on bed rest, there is no where else i’d rather be. post thanksgiving i’m usually in a food coma and preparing for christmas, and except for the food coma, the same applies. miracle on 34th street is on tv, a fire is blazing, cotton gauze is in my mouth, and right now all is good. i’ll be going back to school in a few days, where the work will once again pick up, but this christmas season i plan on making time for baking, decorating, holiday movie watching, ice skating… the list goes on and on.

so for everyone, wherever they may be, enjoy the ones you’re worth and cherish all the resulting moments.
