The Fall To-Do List

go on buzzfeed during the fall and you’ll find a countless amount of articles talking about what it means to be “basic.” apparently liking the fall makes you a basic person… well if that’s the case then screw it, i’m basic. in all honesty though, how does enjoying the leaves changing or wearing sweaters make you this way? if it’s cold, i’m going to wear a sweater, like any normal person would. but seriously, fall and winter are my two favorite times of the year, no shame in admitting it… once i can start baking apple pies or pumpkin cinnamon rolls, i’m in my own version of heaven. throw in a little frank sinatra or hozier to this cooking scenario, and i’m good to go. i’ve already decorated with candy corn (pictures to come), the boot breaking-in process is currently underway (painful, so painful), and both abc family and trader joe’s will be seeing a lot of me. you’re probably reading this and thinking how basic i am. all i have to say to that is “k, cool.” enjoy my fall to do list and a picture of an amazing bonfire, haters.

%22what i'm%22 oneintroducing my new series of blog posts, called “what i’m…” you’re probably wondering what this means, and soon you’ll know, but first i want to address the obvious historical presence in the image above. i am without a doubt a history buff, so going to school in d.c. was a no-brainer for me. i love old buildings, memorials, cities, and places that have stories and history to them, and d.c. has more than its fair share of places with history. while ancient greece and rome hold a special place in my heart, i can say the same for the early united states, the industrial age, the world war II era, and the kennedy era. especially the kennedy era, and since this friday marks the 50 year anniversary of john f. kennedy’s assassination, i found it fitting that there is a kennedy presence in the first of this blog series.

what i’m wearing // the houndstooth sweater jacket pictured above has long since sold out, seeing that it’s from last year, but madewell did something great with this coat. it happens to be one of the comfiest jackets i own, and makes chilly weather more than bearable… (i also love the cold weather so there’s that.)

what i’m reading // i was doing research for a possible paper topic in one of my classes  and came across this book. once i get some free time i’m going to start reading it, and i can’t wait. it definitely satisfies the history buff part of me, plus after visiting arlington national cemetery a few times in the last two weeks (and seeing the book in arlington’s gift shop) i am ready to start reading.

what i’m watching // my friend saw parkland on itunes’ movie page, and we decided to watch it. it didn’t get a lot of publicity, but it actually was a really interesting (and good!) movie. the premise is the assassination of jfk and the aftermath, and has great performances from the cast. if you have time or are in the least bit interested, i recommend watching it!

what i’m eating // this recipe on the glitter guide looks absolutely delicious… next trip to the food store, i know what i’m getting.

what i’m decorating // christmas is around the corner and that means decorating is slowly getting under way. i found the cutest etsy store that sells “chalkboard” signs, and their holiday editions happen to be close to perfect. i want every single one.

what i’m wanting // this book, authorized by the new york times, is a compilation of their coverage of the kennedy era, including new essays and a multitude of black and white photos… the kennedy years will most likely be making an appearance on my christmas list.

tumblr_ms64vyJU1p1rmfv8to1_500stalking the internet on the daily comes with the territory of having a “lifestyle” blog. i write about so many different things on here, so the links i tend to post are typically all different things. so if you’re reading this and wondering how any of these relate to each other, they don’t, but i like them all regardless.

i love anything romantic, and sappy, and sentimental. if it’s really, really cheesy i can’t take it, but if there are subtle nuances of sappy romance i’m all over it. for that reason, this link, which shows the best love speeches in movies, is everything.

throughout my time writing this blog i feel like i’ve mentioned that i love lions. they are my favorite animals for multiple reasons: i’m a leo through and through (my horoscopes are almost always spot-on), my hair has lioness tendencies, favorite movie is lion king, etc. basically the list goes on and on… for that reason, these lion prints are amazing and i may have to invest in one at some point in my life.

although i may not be a boy, j.crew has the best cheat sheet up for men’s winter fashion. i love the layout of their items along with what they chose, and so much of it looks incredibly comfortable and warm.

not the biggest cheese fan, but this grilled cheese post actually looks delicious, and makes me want one of those sandwiches right about now.

bradley gather of luella & june had the most beautiful and unique wedding reception, and i’m obsessed.

a middle school football team did something amazing recently that had me tearing up. if you need your faith restored in humanity, this is it.

these apple hand pies look delicious and easy to make. if you’re having a fall get-together and need to impress your guests, i recommend trying this recipe out.

simply put i am obsessed with the olympics. since i’ve been able to watch them and understand what i was viewing i couldn’t get enough. my top three events to watch are swimming, gymnastics and beach volleyball (basketball is another favorite)! quick side note, i have a special place in my heart for michael phelps… i saw him for the first time at sydney but was so young and then when he emerged again at athens, i bought a fake engagement ring at claires and have saved it ever since. the delusional mindset of a fifth grader has faded, but my superstitious beliefs haven’t let me get rid of the ring. i still wear it whenever he swims (it reemerged during beijing), but don’t worry it isn’t on my ring finger (it’s moved over to the middle…)!

i had to put together a small olympics party with some themed food, tea sandwiches and mini hotdogs and then apple pie cheesecake for dessert, which is one of my new favorites. the decorations were easy to make, and i think i’ll have to save them!

absolutely obsessed with this martha stewart glitter set

tissue paper party headbands!

homemade mini hotdogs with pillsbury crescent rolls

homemade pigs in a blanket with pillsbury crescent rolls

the full table setup!

new favorite: olympic ring apple pie cheesecake!

do we look ready for the olympics? because i think we do…
