%22what i'm%22 oneintroducing my new series of blog posts, called “what i’m…” you’re probably wondering what this means, and soon you’ll know, but first i want to address the obvious historical presence in the image above. i am without a doubt a history buff, so going to school in d.c. was a no-brainer for me. i love old buildings, memorials, cities, and places that have stories and history to them, and d.c. has more than its fair share of places with history. while ancient greece and rome hold a special place in my heart, i can say the same for the early united states, the industrial age, the world war II era, and the kennedy era. especially the kennedy era, and since this friday marks the 50 year anniversary of john f. kennedy’s assassination, i found it fitting that there is a kennedy presence in the first of this blog series.

what i’m wearing // the houndstooth sweater jacket pictured above has long since sold out, seeing that it’s from last year, but madewell did something great with this coat. it happens to be one of the comfiest jackets i own, and makes chilly weather more than bearable… (i also love the cold weather so there’s that.)

what i’m reading // i was doing research for a possible paper topic in one of my classes  and came across this book. once i get some free time i’m going to start reading it, and i can’t wait. it definitely satisfies the history buff part of me, plus after visiting arlington national cemetery a few times in the last two weeks (and seeing the book in arlington’s gift shop) i am ready to start reading.

what i’m watching // my friend saw parkland on itunes’ movie page, and we decided to watch it. it didn’t get a lot of publicity, but it actually was a really interesting (and good!) movie. the premise is the assassination of jfk and the aftermath, and has great performances from the cast. if you have time or are in the least bit interested, i recommend watching it!

what i’m eating // this recipe on the glitter guide looks absolutely delicious… next trip to the food store, i know what i’m getting.

what i’m decorating // christmas is around the corner and that means decorating is slowly getting under way. i found the cutest etsy store that sells “chalkboard” signs, and their holiday editions happen to be close to perfect. i want every single one.

what i’m wanting // this book, authorized by the new york times, is a compilation of their coverage of the kennedy era, including new essays and a multitude of black and white photos… the kennedy years will most likely be making an appearance on my christmas list.

tumblr_ms64vyJU1p1rmfv8to1_500stalking the internet on the daily comes with the territory of having a “lifestyle” blog. i write about so many different things on here, so the links i tend to post are typically all different things. so if you’re reading this and wondering how any of these relate to each other, they don’t, but i like them all regardless.

i love anything romantic, and sappy, and sentimental. if it’s really, really cheesy i can’t take it, but if there are subtle nuances of sappy romance i’m all over it. for that reason, this link, which shows the best love speeches in movies, is everything.

throughout my time writing this blog i feel like i’ve mentioned that i love lions. they are my favorite animals for multiple reasons: i’m a leo through and through (my horoscopes are almost always spot-on), my hair has lioness tendencies, favorite movie is lion king, etc. basically the list goes on and on… for that reason, these lion prints are amazing and i may have to invest in one at some point in my life.

although i may not be a boy, j.crew has the best cheat sheet up for men’s winter fashion. i love the layout of their items along with what they chose, and so much of it looks incredibly comfortable and warm.

not the biggest cheese fan, but this grilled cheese post actually looks delicious, and makes me want one of those sandwiches right about now.

bradley gather of luella & june had the most beautiful and unique wedding reception, and i’m obsessed.

a middle school football team did something amazing recently that had me tearing up. if you need your faith restored in humanity, this is it.

these apple hand pies look delicious and easy to make. if you’re having a fall get-together and need to impress your guests, i recommend trying this recipe out.

megan-georgetownINSLEEi’m back at georgetown and honestly it feels like i never left.. i’ve said this multiple times, but it’s so true. once i step foot on campus and see healy hall for the first time, it’s as if summer barely happened. this semester will most definitely be a different one (friends studying abroad, new classes, clubs to administer, etc.), but i couldn’t be more excited. as of now i’m still working with my roommates to finish up our apartment (it takes time!), but when it’s done i promise all photos will be up here. my bedroom is a totally different story though… i have yet to tackle putting away my shoes and i still don’t think i’m ready for it.

now for the “coolest” part of this post… the illustration above was created for me by inslee. i interviewed her last year for the her campus georgetown branch, and afterwards was able to work with her to commission a print. i basically wanted a georgetown girl, and inslee more than delivered. while i was way too afraid to transport this to college with me (it’s hanging in a frame at home), i figured printing it out and putting in a frame here at school would work just as well. so until next time, which i promise will be soon, hoya saxa. (if you don’t know what this means, look it up)

yes, this happened. no, i do not regret any of it. i purchased a medium sized cardboard deer head from cardboard safari and went to town on making him “meg-style.” basically glitter can make anything better in my opinion, but there’s a fine line between tasteful and overload. bucky here toes that line and that’s why i love him.

one thing i really can’t stand is when i’m seriously disorganized, so you can imagine how stressful college move-in day (or days in my case) is. the roomie and i are still decorating our rooms and after moving in over a week ago, finally managed to raise her bed. i’ve given up on mine… the one thing i do have some control over right now is my desk, and it’s officially becoming a crafting station, no joke.

sophomore year is beginning next week and i couldn’t be more excited. new classes, new experiences and new moments with friends all await me, and starting sunday everything picks up again. i’m starting to pack (which has turned out to be absolutely hellish), and narrowing down clothes, jewelry, shoes and all of the above, hopefully learning from last year’s move in. for the next few days posts won’t be as frequent, but to tide you guys over i thought i’d share my dorm design scheme. i love the way everything came together, and it just so happens this is the one thing i have figured out!

anthropologie rosette bedding in neutral/ivory, which i got during the bedding sale (plus my bday discount)!

assorted pillows from anthropologie, west elm (both sequin ones were on sale!), and etsy (striped)!

a piece of home!

something came over me and i had to get this… i don’t know why, but i love it. all it needs are gold glitter antlers and it’s perfect!

cutest products from sugar paper that manage to stick to my obsessive color scheme…

diy confetti wall art

and last, but not least, the calendar that gets me through everything

i absolutely love making things from scrapbooks to cards, but room decor is probably my favorite. inspiration boards, murals cut out of silver poster board, you name it, i probably love or would love to make it. i had seen these confetti canvases all over the internet and figured they’d be easy to make. easy is an understatement! you only need a few supplies, along with ten minutes, and you’re good to go. when the holidays come around i plan on making some for me and my roommate to hang up on our dorm room door (how cute would a halloween one be?!). you can definitely personalize these through color, quotes, initials, etc., which i definitely think i’ll do in the future!

college, d.c., decor, dorm room, georgetown, heart, home decor, interior design, manhattan, new york, ork, posters, washington

i am the kind of person that once i love something, i truly LOVE it. it’s bad, i know, and some people may be a bit horrified by the sheer amount of sites, blogs, projects, and products i have favorited on my computer. i’m not. i like to consider it a serious kind of devotion, and this devotion is also seen in my everyday life, whether it be in my job, schoolwork, side projects, etc. i throw myself into something and i won’t stop until it’s completed (also i try to make it perfectly completed…)

anyways, i’m getting sidetracked.. back to my obsession. if i find something and i love it, i will squeeze everything i can out of our relationship (that sounds violent, this is more of a materialistic relationship, do not worry!). me and stripes, yeah it’s an unhealthy relationship, the photo below says it all…

so, yesterday i found a site that makes the most amazing posters of cities and i’m lusting after so, SO many of them. that little ol’ word “obsessed” has popped up again, but you know, i think you guys will be too…

how is this $22… it’s a miracle.

seeing georgetown gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling. i seriously may need this for my dorm room.

why are these so perfect?

could this be any cooler?

so yes, i will say it i have “serious devotion” to ork and i am proud. now, all we need is a long island poster and then we’ll be talking…

the college essentials

  1. an amazing pair of headphones (there will be times you need to study, but it’s not quiet enough. you can use noise canceling headphones, or as i do, play “peaceful” music on my beats. you literally won’t be able to hear ANYTHING other than your own thoughts. ps SHOUTOUT to the big cousin will, i wouldn’t have been enlightened on this essential without you.. )
  2. a super SUPER comfy sweater (an essential for late night study sessions)
  3. an enormous calendar (for scheduling and organization. you may or may not become dependent on this)
  4. set of plateware/silverware (you won’t have a kitchen now, so finding a plate won’t be as easy..)
  5. planners galore (you may use one, but i have a few for different classes, activities, etc. i also make way too many to-do lists…)
  6. reliable pair of boots (a pair of boots that is comfortable and can go from classes to nights out is a necessity.)
  7. first aid kit (it may seem boring, but it’s oh so necessary)
  8. a throw blanket for your bed (if you’re power napping it’s easier to climb out from under a simple blanket, compared to getting under all your covers.. i learned this the hard way..)
  9. a really good room spray (aerie has one that smells HEAVENLY!)
  10. room décor (this may seem obvious, but i loved decorating my dorm room, because it made it seem more like home.. I treated my side of the room like a little nook/getaway.
  11. an overnight bag (use a bag like this for weekend trips back home. when you’re lugging bags to your school for move in weekend it’s easy to forget a smaller piece of luggage!)
  12. a makeup bag to carry your makeup into the bathroom (it’s not just a shower you’re sharing with other people, its mirror space too. the alternative to this is a mirror for your desk, which works too!)
  13. door hooks for your closet door (saves a TON of space! i hung hats, button downs and maxi dresses on these, along with a towel and robe. you’re going to need as much space as you can get
  14. vitamins (i may sound like a mom, but vitamins are an essential. i can’t even begin to tell you how many people got sick in the beginning of the year. living on the same floor basically contains the illness to surrounding areas so sickness spreads fast.)
  15. a set of tools (i promise they will come in handy!)
  16. an extra pair of sheets (this is something that is easily forgotten… i almost did, but thank god for my mom. when you’re doing laundry, or on the other hand don’t have time, it’s good to have backup sheets!)
  17. a pair of slippers that aren’t truly slippers (this may seem obvious for some people, but it wasn’t to me. i didn’t bring a pair with me and regretted it when having to go to the bathroom and not wanting to put “proper” shoes on. i wear ugg moccasins which are the comfiest shoes ever (you can easily find cheaper alternatives though).. i even wore them to a test or two when I was too nervous/preoccupied to put real clothes on)
  18. a book or two (i may be solo on this one, but i love to read, and hated how I lost time to read books that I wanted while away at school. that’s something i plan on changing next year.. pack a book or two – i recommend a favorite so you don’t get sick of them- to flip through when you need a break from assigned reading. I brought fun style books such as lauren conrad’s, derek blasberg’s, a french style book which is a favorite, and a new one that I can’t wait to bring.
  19. a pot and pan (if you have a common room, use it! if you can’t cook take these last few weeks to teach yourself some basic recipes.. after eating dining hall food you will without a doubt crave a homemade meal. my favorite college recipe is an egg cup with bacon. so easy to make, but so, so good)
  20. something to remind you of home (whether it be pictures, a poster that involves a saying, anything. living on your own for the first time is fun, but also daunting and there are those little moments that make you homesick. like when you want to run to the deli to get your favorite sandwich or run downstairs and play with your dog (personal experience).)

College is a whole new world and while you may be a bit nervous, it’s so fun and so worth the work of getting in, so enjoy it!
