i want to be an art collector, specifically an art collector of inslee’s work. my first time seeing her illustrations was a few years ago when i was scrolling through tumblr and i’ve been obsessed ever since. i consider myself to be very creative, but sadly i can’t paint… if i could though, i imagine it would be something like inslee’s paintings. not only do i have all of her calendars, but her prints are also next level. a few of them are framed on my wall and i love them more than life itself (that’s a bit dramatic, but i’m trying to explain my love). two years ago i commissioned a piece by her (my georgetown girl) and it’s my pride and joy. i love her and will treasure her forever. if you ever want some inspiration head on over to her blog, because i promise you’ll spend a ridiculous amount of time looking through her illustrations. also, i may or may not have just ordered a set of her holiday cards… it’s never too early to get started.

photo 3-2if you can’t tell already, that photo above is my bed. my comfy bed (pre-pillows and throw blanket) that gets destroyed every night when i go to sleep. i really don’t know what happens once i fall asleep, but blankets end up on the ground, pillows cover my face… basically, i’m a crazy sleeper plus i sleep really late, so it’s just a great combination all around. i do love decorating though, and this love has also applied to all my college bedrooms. my roommate and i both love our senior year bedroom, and as we phrase it, “it’s got the vibes.” my side’s got some of my favorites featured in wall art: the breakfast club, inslee, and johnny cash. three very important things. the little shelving unit next to my bed cost $30 and was really easy to set up (except for the fact i didn’t have half the tools to do it); it’s perfect for holding my school books and random books i’m reading, my notebooks, photos, makeup, and the tray. the tray is italicized, because it’s special to me. i keep my glasses, water bottle, favorite candle, lotions, my inslee calendar and pens and pencils up there… all the basics. last, but not least i use the top of my dresser for more makeup storage, jewelry and some other little “organizational displays.”

photo 3-2// my lovely bedroom for senior year (blog post on this soon!) //

let me start this off by saying that i haven’t done one of these types of posts in a very long time. i don’t even remember the last time i did a “day in the life”, a.k.a. throwing a bunch of instagram photos together that capture a small part of my life. the other day i was thinking about how much i used to love doing these, so i figured i should start it up again. this time with something a little bit different. actually, a lot different. a photo of me, kinda. i’ve never actually posted a photo of myself on here and don’t really have a reason why, but here we go. i guess if i really want to do this blogging thing, i have to unveil “the face behind the site”… so shield your eyes and prepare yourselves. jokes, i’m not that scary… only a little bit.

the current desk setup which i may or may not have obsessed over

so i haven’t done one of these posts in forever, but it is honestly up there with one of my favorite things to write about. every single time i sit down to write one of these, i always reminisce like crazy, and basically wonder how time literally flies by. one minute i’m sitting on my bed with my little man, brady (aka the greatest pups ever) and the next i’m sitting here in my school library, missing that same little man. it’s moments like these that make me miss my home and family, but as my mom keeps reminding me parent’s weekend here at georgetown is getting closer and closer. so until next time, here is a little update on my daily ongoings here in dc. (plus a few summer throwbacks)

megan-georgetownINSLEEi’m back at georgetown and honestly it feels like i never left.. i’ve said this multiple times, but it’s so true. once i step foot on campus and see healy hall for the first time, it’s as if summer barely happened. this semester will most definitely be a different one (friends studying abroad, new classes, clubs to administer, etc.), but i couldn’t be more excited. as of now i’m still working with my roommates to finish up our apartment (it takes time!), but when it’s done i promise all photos will be up here. my bedroom is a totally different story though… i have yet to tackle putting away my shoes and i still don’t think i’m ready for it.

now for the “coolest” part of this post… the illustration above was created for me by inslee. i interviewed her last year for the her campus georgetown branch, and afterwards was able to work with her to commission a print. i basically wanted a georgetown girl, and inslee more than delivered. while i was way too afraid to transport this to college with me (it’s hanging in a frame at home), i figured printing it out and putting in a frame here at school would work just as well. so until next time, which i promise will be soon, hoya saxa. (if you don’t know what this means, look it up)

inslee, memorial day, memorial day weekend, summer, texas, travel

Imagehappy memorial day to all! for our family, memorial day has always been a day to remember those who serve our country, and those who served in the past. my dad always hangs up the american flag and marine corps flag (in memory of my grandpa), and since i’ve been younger it always seemed really special to me. i also feel like memorial day weekend is the kickoff for the rest of the summer. even though it’s been raining for the majority of the weekend, yesterday and today were clear so i hope the weather keeps up. anyhow, tomorrow morning i am heading to texas, san antonio to be exact, for the western conference finals (if memphis wins tonight). i couldn’t be more excited, seeing that the farthest place i’ve been to in the united states is chicago, and i was a baby so i don’t think it counts… i definitely think i’ll feel like i’m in a different world, but i am so ready. now all i’m hoping is that i can survive the heat and humidity, and by me surviving, i mean my hair.Image

tumblr_mifarkUP1A1r7o4kzo1_500 during the school year i am extremely lucky/grateful to be an editor for her campus georgetown. i started off as a writer during my freshman year, which actually was the first year of our branch’s publication, and it has been one of my favorite experiences at georgetown. to top it off i get to do some pretty great articles, and the last one of the school year is an example of that. for the final piece i was able to interview inslee haynes, which was something i couldn’t have been more excited about since she happens to be one of my role models, and i figured a lot of georgetown girls would feel the same! before i even went to georgetown i used to go through her blog daily to catch up on her recent illustrations and whenever i saw them in publications i would get so excited (vicarious living i guess). after college inslee lived in dc and then moved to new york, so i am doing something pretty similar (living in dc for college, and moving back to new york after school), so i guess it could be called a residency reversal of sorts. one of my favorite parts of the interview happened to be something i wasn’t expecting. her favorite life quote, “this too shall pass”, happens to be our family quote and my favorite “line.” my grandpa used to always say this, my mom has it embroidered on her beach bag, and it’s honestly something i always say and live by. anyhow, if you check out this link you can read the entirety of the interview!tumblr_mmsg903eMG1rzpv7eo1_500tumblr_mm2w2edou41s0o47wo1_500

a few things i happen to be loving this week!

Robin Rice Gallery

summer rain // there is nothing as peaceful and beautiful to me as summer rain. the thunder and lightning may cause some issues, such as power outages in over 90 degree heat when air conditioning is necessary..

mylifeinlipstick.polyvore.com

polyvore // i used to make polyvore sets all the time and at college i took a bit of a break. now that summer is here i’ve rediscovered my love for both making sets and creating tutorials. mylifeinlipstick.polyvore.com

sale prices // can we just talk about that moment when something you love and have been coveting goes on sale. for a great deal. is that not the best feeling ever? then add in the fact that it’s the last one in your size. thank you anthropologie!

MAC Impassioned Lipstick

bright lips // i absolutely love cosmetics, but something i seriously love happens to be bright, colorful summer lipsticks. it can be from the drugstore (revlon has some amazing ones!), mac or high-end brands, i love them all! i plan to put up a post on my top ten summer colors soon.

a plus that the subject of this creation was spotted in georgetown!

love both of those outfits!

i forever will be obsessed with this painting

inslee // inslee haynes, an author whose art is saw all over tumblr, is my newest love. her work has been a favorite i’ve mine for a long time, but i never knew who created the images i was seeing. now that i know I’ve been bookmarking every picture i love so i can print them out and collage them!
