tumblr_inline_mzcqjneyti1rynl5eheading off to school this year i thought ahead and figured that i could bring my apple tv, hook it up to the school’s wifi and be set. i was wrong. instead i realized that the school doesn’t allow the set up of an apple tv, even though i made attempts to get cords and little boxes and even an airport. nothing worked. so i have an apple tv and airport that just sit there, almost teasing me. now, if these two had worked i’d be set. there would be hulu, netflix, and nba games ready to go… the only issue would be missing big events that were live, such as awards shows. i figured i could stream them, but when the time came for the golden globes nothing worked. instead i had to resort to watching clips and recaps as they were slowly posted online. the oscars are around the corner, and hopefully i can figure out some kind of viewing situation that a: works and b: isn’t illegal. so until then i’ll watch the best of tina and amy on buzz feed and stalk red carpet looks online. speaking of red carpet looks, here are a few of my favorites from the golden globes and the sag awards: jennifer-lawrence-dior-gown-sag-awards-red-carpet-h724 michelle-dockery-golden-globes-oscar-de-la-renta-h724 margot-robbie-golden-globes-gucci-h724 sandra-bullock-lanvin-sag-awards-red-carpet-h724 kelly-osbourne-zac-posen-gown-sag-awards-red-carpet-best-dressed-1-h724tumblr_inline_mzcq3zQHxy1rynl5e tumblr_inline_mzcpitSffm1rynl5e

481a8a38f175de63af3bec5155e11bcfi fess up, i have been completely and utterly slacking on this blog. last semester i focused a LOT on schoolwork, and as it got closer to finals that’s where my focus went to. it got to the point where my mom would call me asking what happened to my blog, and i’d respond saying that i knew i was a  bit behind, but i would catch up. here’s thing thing, i LOVE blogging, i really do. it’s a great way for me to express my rambling thoughts, show some of my favorite bloggers outfits, put together random photos that “match”, basically anything that comes to my mind comes up on this blog. this randomness is what i love about my life in lipstick, and that’s why i’m getting back on the blogging wagon. one of my new year’s resolutions is finding my balance, and i’m intent on doing that. this balance involves everything: my school life, social life, blogging, health, etc., and i think balance is the perfect word. there have been more than enough times where i felt i was being stretched too thin, and last semester was honestly great because i really did find my balance. i plan on carrying that into this semester, and maintaining my balance. my concluding sentence of this blog needs to be something cliche, and so here is a quote that i love that basically expresses my view on life: embracing change, but finding a balance in everything.

“an arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means it’s going to launch you into something great. so just focus, and keep aiming.”

%22what i'm%22 oneintroducing my new series of blog posts, called “what i’m…” you’re probably wondering what this means, and soon you’ll know, but first i want to address the obvious historical presence in the image above. i am without a doubt a history buff, so going to school in d.c. was a no-brainer for me. i love old buildings, memorials, cities, and places that have stories and history to them, and d.c. has more than its fair share of places with history. while ancient greece and rome hold a special place in my heart, i can say the same for the early united states, the industrial age, the world war II era, and the kennedy era. especially the kennedy era, and since this friday marks the 50 year anniversary of john f. kennedy’s assassination, i found it fitting that there is a kennedy presence in the first of this blog series.

what i’m wearing // the houndstooth sweater jacket pictured above has long since sold out, seeing that it’s from last year, but madewell did something great with this coat. it happens to be one of the comfiest jackets i own, and makes chilly weather more than bearable… (i also love the cold weather so there’s that.)

what i’m reading // i was doing research for a possible paper topic in one of my classes  and came across this book. once i get some free time i’m going to start reading it, and i can’t wait. it definitely satisfies the history buff part of me, plus after visiting arlington national cemetery a few times in the last two weeks (and seeing the book in arlington’s gift shop) i am ready to start reading.

what i’m watching // my friend saw parkland on itunes’ movie page, and we decided to watch it. it didn’t get a lot of publicity, but it actually was a really interesting (and good!) movie. the premise is the assassination of jfk and the aftermath, and has great performances from the cast. if you have time or are in the least bit interested, i recommend watching it!

what i’m eating // this recipe on the glitter guide looks absolutely delicious… next trip to the food store, i know what i’m getting.

what i’m decorating // christmas is around the corner and that means decorating is slowly getting under way. i found the cutest etsy store that sells “chalkboard” signs, and their holiday editions happen to be close to perfect. i want every single one.

what i’m wanting // this book, authorized by the new york times, is a compilation of their coverage of the kennedy era, including new essays and a multitude of black and white photos… the kennedy years will most likely be making an appearance on my christmas list.

tumblr_ms64vyJU1p1rmfv8to1_500stalking the internet on the daily comes with the territory of having a “lifestyle” blog. i write about so many different things on here, so the links i tend to post are typically all different things. so if you’re reading this and wondering how any of these relate to each other, they don’t, but i like them all regardless.

i love anything romantic, and sappy, and sentimental. if it’s really, really cheesy i can’t take it, but if there are subtle nuances of sappy romance i’m all over it. for that reason, this link, which shows the best love speeches in movies, is everything.

throughout my time writing this blog i feel like i’ve mentioned that i love lions. they are my favorite animals for multiple reasons: i’m a leo through and through (my horoscopes are almost always spot-on), my hair has lioness tendencies, favorite movie is lion king, etc. basically the list goes on and on… for that reason, these lion prints are amazing and i may have to invest in one at some point in my life.

although i may not be a boy, j.crew has the best cheat sheet up for men’s winter fashion. i love the layout of their items along with what they chose, and so much of it looks incredibly comfortable and warm.

not the biggest cheese fan, but this grilled cheese post actually looks delicious, and makes me want one of those sandwiches right about now.

bradley gather of luella & june had the most beautiful and unique wedding reception, and i’m obsessed.

a middle school football team did something amazing recently that had me tearing up. if you need your faith restored in humanity, this is it.

these apple hand pies look delicious and easy to make. if you’re having a fall get-together and need to impress your guests, i recommend trying this recipe out.

there are so many different parts of these outfits that i love, and am tempted to stalk half of these looks on their respective websites. that actually is probably my biggest issue when it comes to following fashion bloggers… i find these outfits and get a small obsession with them, and then i go to the websites of the stores where they were purchased and watch the items like a hawk. basically sit there and wait for them to go sale. so if any of you want to be like me (which i don’t recommend), check out some of these bloggers!

favorite fall thingsrifle paper co. phone case //  one of my favorite quotes // the album i can’t stop listening to // shoes that seem amazing // one of my favorite hats // a nail polish look i’d love to try out // my fall addiction

once i get into a routine i tend to stick with it for a while, becoming mildly obsessed with different aspects of it. now that fall finally has arrived i have a few things that i more than love and can’t get enough of.

i happen to be absolutely obsessed with that leopard phone case. i’ve been using my rifle paper co. new york phone case since this summer and it’s amazing. it hasn’t gotten messed up after being dropped more times than i’d like to admit so i haven’t felt the need to change my phone case… until now.

thanks to pinterest i can now keep all of my favorite quotes in one place, which has been a blessing and a curse. once i’m on pinterest i can’t get off, and since i have a soft spot for inspirational sayings, i could spend a ridiculous amount of time compiling one of my inspirational boards.

i love music, especially anything that is folksy/indie. during my heyday in high school i was a big dashboard confessional fan… chris carrabba was my boy. the other day i wish watching reign (a new cw show that i LOVE) and a scene came on that i was instantly obsessed with. first, the main character was dancing in the middle of a ballroom with her best friends in a scene straight out of my dreams, and second the background song was literally perfect. after a little stalking i found that the band in question was twin forks and the song was back to you, and unsurprisingly my boy, chris carrabba, was a lead singer of this new band. i’ve had their EP on repeat for the past few days, and i recommend you take a listen! (back to you is actually great)

i love almost anything leopard. i’ve been eyeing these slippers for what seems like forever but at this point i can’t find them anywhere. hopefully they’ll pop up on a discount site one of these days, but until then i’ll keep searching.

now that it’s getting cold i can FINALLY enjoy chai lattes. for me they happen to be highly addictive, so i caved and had my first one last week. once i kick off the chai season i consume an insane amount… this year i’m going to try my hardest to practice more control.

thanks to my mane of hair i am a collector of baseball caps. usually i always have one in my bag, and other than my college baseball cap, i love wearing the one above.

i have been waiting to try out matte nails for the longest time, and i love how it looks with black nail polish. if i finish work early tonight, this is something i will definitely try out.

fall, foliage, leaves, october, sweater weather, sweaters

c7c392c4819761b0a226b523b6dfb9d5guys, today is the first day of october, and i am legitimately freaking out. once october rolls around i feel like fall is officially here, and i couldn’t be more excited. i am a cold weather, crispy leaves, pumpkin-flavored anything, cozy sweater, roaring fire, boot wearing kind of person. (that was a mouthful, i know) the thought of leaves changing, the smell of fall filling the air, and that first really chilly day makes me deliriously happy. you may or may not be reading this and thinking this girl is incredibly dramatic, a bit crazy, and more obsessed with fall than she should be, but you’re right. from now until december, i’m in my favorite three month period of the year and i couldn’t be happier. if you think i’m freaking out now, just wait until december rolls around…90449b665ae797bf511c5f7459119e09 4ad14c7871bb9027eaf96f2dec921694 c4db7f9f06dc1e73ddddc4753e315d3ad0fbdea9354937c1c6bc6c95f5cd179d 866ec7ff271cb9866547a63ab7c32edafall-to-do-list

the current desk setup which i may or may not have obsessed over

so i haven’t done one of these posts in forever, but it is honestly up there with one of my favorite things to write about. every single time i sit down to write one of these, i always reminisce like crazy, and basically wonder how time literally flies by. one minute i’m sitting on my bed with my little man, brady (aka the greatest pups ever) and the next i’m sitting here in my school library, missing that same little man. it’s moments like these that make me miss my home and family, but as my mom keeps reminding me parent’s weekend here at georgetown is getting closer and closer. so until next time, here is a little update on my daily ongoings here in dc. (plus a few summer throwbacks)

6a00d83451595d69e20120a6fe7499970b-800wiwithin some of my wildest hopes and dreams is my desire to one day attend a show at new york fashion week… while looking at photos of different shows is great, and it may cause uncontrollable envy and serious clothing lust, being at a show is still something i would love to experience. since i’m in college in a place that doesn’t happen to be in new york and since i don’t have any invites, it’s not like i even have an option to attend. but STILL, a girl can dream.

instead of doing school work i spent a good amount of time stalking some of my favorite designers and seeing which had looks i can’t seem to forget. i easily could have included way too many pictures, and things could have gotten out of hand, but i decided to narrow it down to a few shows: rebecca minkoff, mara hoffman, and j.crew. hope you all become just as obsessed as i am! (but really)

rebecca minkoff:

and last, but not least, mara hoffman:
