little know fact, but before i started my life in lipstick, i was over on polyvore, cranking out beauty tutorials left and right. now if you know polyvore you’ll understand this wasn’t the exact setting for doing tutorials, but i made it work. (http://mylifeinlipstick.polyvore.com) so there i was making tutorials and doing something i loved, because in reality, i really love doing makeup. i don’t talk about it a lot, but after college i want to go into the business side of the beauty industry. it helps to have the creative appreciation for it, but the downside is that i know sephora like the back of my hand, and for a while, all i did was buy makeup. even if it wasn’t to use, i just loved the packaging or the look. yes this sounds like a bad habit, but i liked to call it investment in my future (and i still do)… i think i’ll host some easy makeup looks/what’s in my beauty setup/what i always have on me, but for now i’ll stick with some looks i love. p.s. i’ve been known to do a mean adele tutorial back in the day, so be prepared for a re-emergence of that look.

first off, happy belated easter! christmas and i go hand in hand, but there is something super special about easter. it reminds me that spring is here (or should be) and bright colors can soon be worn freely. so last night while i got reacquainted aka straight up obsessed with pinterest i started creating boards and pinning and saving photos. i can already tell this is going to be an unhealthy addiction. so on my last night of break i’m going to call it a night early, but hopefully this rag tag group of photos can bring you some inspiration. p.s. if you’re in the area, ill be making those mini cakes pretty soon.

for a lot us baby bloggers as i like to call us, there are certain bloggers we look up to. typically the man repeller is a number one choice, along with cupcake and cashmere, and yadda yadda yadda. although i love them both, there’s a special place in my heart for the blogger sincerely, jules. pardon my french, but she is literally the shit. all of her outfits look amazing, yet seem so carefree and casual. putting together carefree and amazing isn’t something i’d using to define my style, like ever. if i don’t put thought into my outfit i throw on workout clothes, which makes me look athletic, but i know it’s all a lie, because i’m chilling in my room, not going to the gym… (don’t tell anyone) anyhow, everything jules puts together looks great, and when i first started following fashion blogs i constantly refreshed her site. even her instagram inspired me, but i waited a long time to jump on to that bandwagon. she definitely serves as a style inspiration and pushes me past the “east coast” look which is sometimes easy to fall into. now you won’t see me walking around in wedge sneakers, but i won’t lie when i say I’ve lusted after a pair or two… if you guys don’t become obsessed with her, then you have a serious problem (see what i did there?).

this may be really embarrassing, but i’ll admit i put a lot of thought into the titles of my blog posts. no joke. i’ll sit there and try to think of something witty or puny, and if it doesn’t happen i might even write about something totally different. sometimes i put pressure on myself for the weirdest reasons, and i admit this is one of those reasons. i do like today’s title though, so i guess i can continue with this post, and not judge myself too hard… anyways, i’ve begun making my spring playlist, but funny story it snowed yesterday, and since all my posts now included the weirdness of dc weather i had to include it here. i literally woke up for my 8 am class yesterday, put on my utility jacket with those puffy fur-lined hoods (not real, i swear), wrapped myself in a scarf and made the trek over to class. i love snow, but i was listening to my spring playlist while trying to move my fingers. it’s cool though, i mean i’m open to new experiences, but this is a bit too much. i started spring cleaning the other day, and had to stop and take my sweaters out again… what is that? i hope this is my last weather related post, so for now i’m just going to listen to my spring playlist and pretend i’m walking to class in a skirt, sandals and t-shirt, instead of shivering and running for cover.

sometimes we need to get real. we need to realize that while we are making progress, there are things in this world that still need to be changed. yesterday i read a story about a british teenager who was made fun of and set on fire at a party, because of his sexuality. literally, he was set on fire. how do people do that? how does this happen? many things confuse me about humanity and why people do the things they do. there is so much evil out there, but if you pay attention there is good too, and i honestly believe that things can change and will change. i don’t know if this is some kind of naiveté or a hopeless state of hope, but we’ve changed in the past for the better, and although history does have a way of repeating itself, sometimes tradition needs to be broken.

yesterday morning i woke up and it was snowing. yes, snowing. this may not be a big deal, because march can still be considered wintery, except for the fact that today people were rocking shorts and skirts. what is this? as i said in my last post i can’t follow the weather fluctuations… whenever i’m working the cash register at j.crew, many customers feel the same (yes i ask them, and some of them freak out aka i’ve found my kindred spirits). even this past st. patrick’s day weekend had rainy days, and on saturday i found myself using my shirt, running for cover into another party. i also happened to meet someone who reads this blog, and if you know me in real life (not that this isn’t real life, but you know what i mean), you know that moments like that make my day or maybe life. i got kind of emotional, but it’s all good, i’m used to it, so thank you laura!! anyways back to today’s sunniness… so i’ve had all these photos of bloggers and celebrities rocking sunglasses, and i just want to get to the point where i can wear my sunglasses without looking like a weirdo for wearing them for no reason. so until the weather finally makes that switch to spring, i’ll just keep checking up on my favorite bloggers, rocking the california weather, while i battle the wind and rain to get to the library…

there is one thing i love and hate about dc: the weather. it is constantly changing, and i really can’t keep up. at least back in ny, it’s always cold in the winter. i know it, i’m used to it, i expect (and my mom is from the midwest a.k.a. loves the cold), so i love it too. the difference in dc is that one day it’s sunny and warm, the next it’s monsooning, and the next cold and windy. no joke, this has happened this week, and it gives me whiplash. i love that dc gets warm really early, but i don’t love not being ready for the weather. i almost started spring cleaning yesterday to put all my sweaters away, but thank god i didn’t. today i was straight up shivering on my way to my morning class, cursing myself for making the decision to wear leggings and moccasins. so i guess i can begin fantasizing (no, no that kind) about spring weather and breaking out spring clothes, but until then i’ll just look at them online, and keep on dreaming. shout out to calypso st barth for having some amazing new arrivals, but i hate to break it to ya, you guys won’t be taking my money… (that’s a funny joke, who am i kidding, i have no self-restraint)

saying i like to make things is an understatement. since the time i could start crafting and cooking, i was in the kitchen or at the kitchen table making cookies or working on my latest masterpiece a.k.a. coloring in my disney colprbook. as i got older though i was able to try out new things, like scrapbooking. when i tell you i was obsessed with scrapbooking i’m not exaggerating, at all. me and michael’s crafts store were (and still remain to be) t for tight. i collected jolee’s stickers as if i had a hoarding problem, but it’s cool, i accept my eccentricities. now that i love fashion and clothes i decided to get crafty with them too. in no way am i fashion designer, but i like to do some diy projects now and again. i was on another blog, honestly wtf, and i saw their take on a sequined sweater, so i decided to try it out. let me tell you, that sweater took a hell of a long time to make, but it was so worth it. i also played around with a jean shirt and an old gingham shirt and patched it up, gave it a little heart (cheesy joke, once again.) basically, at this point in my life, i’m practically valentino.

i’ve had this collage chilling on my desktop for a month, a whole entire month. don’t forget the fact that i have a little post it-note reminding me to write about these earrings. did i do that? no. should i have? maybe. there are times i put together posts a little bit in advance so i don’t fall behind, but sometimes it happens anyway. especially right now. with daylight savings comes the loss of time and sleep, add traveling back to school on top of that, and don’t forget throwing yourself right back into homework, and you can see why putting posts up can sometimes get iffy. the intentions are all there i swear, but sometimes i feel bleh and they all go out the window. so instead of getting completely off topic, the earrings pictured above happen to be elizabeth cole pieces, and i’m obsessed. i’d like to say i could rock the fishbones, but that might be the delusional, tired me speaking… the parrots on the other hand seem SUPER functional and simple, so i’ll definitely try to fit them into my everyday wardrobe!!

while i do LOVE college, there are certain things i miss, such as cooking. yes, we have a common room with a kitchen i can use, but i’m not really feeling the fact that the majority of my supplies have been stolen. to the person out there who stole four of my cupcake tins, i hope you enjoy them, because i know i did… anyhow, i still cook at school (that’s an exaggeration as a friend remind me, i don’t do it as much anymore and i miss it) but when i do, i keep it pretty simple. once i get home though it’s a different story. tonight i made baked gruyere & cheddar lobster mac n’ cheese with a side of roasted parmesan garlic cauliflower. it was SO good, but i was happy to find that with a few tweaks i can make it at school. i just need to put all my stuff in lockdown, because next thing i know my food will be stolen off the stove. if it comes to this, i may ditch the whole lax approach to these quasi-robberies, and stage a full-fledged investigation… yeah, it may not go far, but hopefully all those days watching law and order: svu taught me something. (ps that’s my dog brady, he’s a mush and kept me company during this snowy day)
