march state of the unionspring is finally here and my current “favorites” reflect that. i can finally hang up my winter jacket (hopefully there won’t be freak weather) and put my timbs into storage, and break out some sandals, ripped jeans and white t-shirts (a.k.a. my spring wardrobe).

what i’m eating | sweetgreen is right down the block from my apartment, and now that spring is here i will start getting way more frozen yogurt than i should. soon strawberries will be back and i’ll be adding them to my favorite salad (spinach, romaine, sweet potatoes, chickpeas, avocado, roasted broccoli, pita chips, goat cheese, chicken and balsamic dressing).

what i’m listening to | i can listen to mumford and sons all the time. this isn’t an exaggeration… senior year of high school i listened to their album every single day while working on our yearbook. their new album is coming out soon, and while it has a different sound, i couldn’t be more excited. check out their new song here.

what i’m reading | i absolutely love to bake, and collecting cookbooks definitely fuels my love. there are a few cookbooks that i want to get, but ovenly seems great. just take a look at the cover, and i think you’ll agree.

what i’m watching | i wanted to see wild while it was in theaters, but that didn’t happen. so instead i’ve been waiting for it to be released, and now that it’s finally out i can watch it.

what i’m wearing | i have been wearing this perfume now that it’s warmer out, this nude lip balm, and this ring.

what i’m lusting after | sandals are coming back into my life, and i really like these ones.

every time i do one of these posts, i feel like i’m saying the same thing… “wow, i can’t believe how quickly the time has flown by. where has the month gone?” hate to say it, but it’s true. february was an absolute blur, and now march is here, seemingly out of nowhere. the whole “time is speeding by thing” may just be exacerbated by the fact that i’m in the second semester of my senior year, and everything seems to be happening so quickly. before i start talking about seizing the day and all those clichés, i’m going to stop myself and save that for the actual last few weeks of senior year.

there aren’t enough words to describe how much i love new orleans (and the south). yes, i’m a new york girl through and through, but there’s a certain charm down south. it helps that when i got to new orleans the weather was unreal (sunny and warm) and my first was a shrimp po boy, so i started off on the right foot. the mardi gras parades were unreal… my roommate (who is from nola) gave us tips on which beads you should save and how to catch them (no public indecency required), but i still managed to get annihilated by bags of beads hitting me in the face. i was able to get some beauties, but the beating i took on bourbon street one night from one solitary necklace was brutal. there’s pain and then there’s “getting whipped in the face at high speed with beads being flung from balconies” pain. i had my fair share of hurricanes, fried chicken, bourbon street, mechanical bulls, warm weather, front porches, southern charm, bead-related injuries, and crawfish and i absolutely loved it. so until next time new orleans, i’ll be missing you.

tomorrow morning, around the crack of dawn (which is what it will feel like to me), i will be making my way down to new orleans for mardi gras. after visiting new orleans last year, i fell in love with city and had an experience that showed me just how amazing nola is in two days. i know that mardi gras is its whole own experience and i’ve been resting up (or trying to) in order to get ready. once i get back i will without a doubt be posting photos from my trip on here, but until then i have some “filler photos.”

by the way, there are just a few things that i will be needing to get through the weekend…

my trusted white lo-top converse // a purse to hold a ton of stuff // sunglasses (that hopefully make it through) // a shirt that can weather the storm // a visit to get the most delicious doughnuts ever // a return to jackson square and many trips back to the french quarter

{ a little bit of new years jubilee }

i know that january isn’t over yet, but it’s getting pretty close to the end of the month. this weekend is going to be super busy, because it’s senior parents weekend at georgetown and i’m helping to plan it. i decided to jump the gun on this post, which hopefully isn’t a bad decision… who knows, i might even have enough photos from this weekend that i can do a separate post, but you’ll have to wait and see! while you wait, you should get ready for the best super bowl post ever. (do you sense any dramatics?)

Bookworm

in the kingdom of ice: this tells the story of polar exploration during the gilded age and is supposed to be enthralling

a farewell to arms: an ernest hemingway classic set in world war I that i cannot wait to finally read

everything i never told you: when i tell you i could not put this down, i’m not being dramatic. i was up all night so i could finish it

empire of the summer moon: heard such great things about this book, and i love reading/learning about the american west, the frontier, manifest destiny, and native american culture (and its downfall at the hands of americans, which i don’t love…)

see how small: read the bio for this book, i promise it won’t disappoint

redeployment: a compilation of short stories featuring different perspectives of marines in the iraq war. i think military history and works of literature are so interesting, and this one was great

all the light we cannot see: this is one of the books that has been on my nightstand for the longest time and i really need to read it. i’ve heard way too many good things not to

the short and tragic life of robert peace: poignant, sad, but very much worth a read

california: you could buy this simply for the cover design

the yellow birds: another military read i need to finally read

to kill a mockingbird: the last time i read this book was in 8th grade, and i think right now would be a good time to re-read it

the boston girl: this book is right up my alley

we are not ourselves: i read the description for this one and i was hooked

fact: i love to read. a lot. when i was younger i would go through bags of books from the library and beg my mom to take me all the time. as i got older i asked my mom to take me to barnes and noble so i could buy books and start my own collection… which leads me to the point where i have three cases and have “coffee table books” all over my bedroom. i’ve also cleaned out my books so many times throughout the years that at this point i could have a baby library with the most random assortment of books. i love non-fiction, especially historical and autobiographical, fiction, short stories, everything. it’s all so good. some of the books above i’ve already read and plan on re-reading, like “to kill a mockingbird”, “redeployment” and “everything i never told you” were SUCH good books and i definitely recommend them. everything else i am getting ready to read or have started reading, so hopefully i have time to get through some of these.

right after posting my golden globes blurb my computer decided to die, first week back at school. so that’s great. my laptop was sent off by apple for repairs and hopefully i should get it back soon. i’ve been borrowing my roommate’s laptop (bless you, annie) and hopefully i get mine back soon so i can upload more posts that i have saved on my mac… which may or may not happen if everything is lost.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

now that i started off with that intro, i’ll get to the real point of this upload. post-graduation i plan on doing a road trip across the u.s. with my friends, which has been on my bucket list for the longest time. my mom’s had this dream of taking an RV across the united states (which i still want to do, mom), but there are so many places and cities that i want to visit. i may or may not be a history freak and i love traveling and food, good food, so i’m more than excited for this trip. there will definitely be a lot of stops on this trip, but some musts include tennessee (memphis and nashville… elvis and johnny cash without a doubt influenced these choices), texas (austin), arizona (ghost towns and the grand canyon), and a number of other places. last spring break we road-tripped throughout the south and i got to see so much of louisiana and mississippi, and promptly fell in love with every place we visited. i’ve been using this website to do some research and pinterest to start organizing/planning, so expect some more posts on the post-graduation whirlwind adventure. (also, the duffel bag above seems pretty perfect for this trip)

i can’t even really begin to describe the kind of year that 2014 was. it was filled with ups and downs and everything in between. the saying goes that a picture is worth a thousand words, and i agree… so i decided to make a little “movie” of the past year. hopefully my “video” doesn’t get taken off of youtube or vimeo, but until then, enjoy! (p.s. play it in hd for the best quality)
