photo 3-2// my lovely bedroom for senior year (blog post on this soon!) //

let me start this off by saying that i haven’t done one of these types of posts in a very long time. i don’t even remember the last time i did a “day in the life”, a.k.a. throwing a bunch of instagram photos together that capture a small part of my life. the other day i was thinking about how much i used to love doing these, so i figured i should start it up again. this time with something a little bit different. actually, a lot different. a photo of me, kinda. i’ve never actually posted a photo of myself on here and don’t really have a reason why, but here we go. i guess if i really want to do this blogging thing, i have to unveil “the face behind the site”… so shield your eyes and prepare yourselves. jokes, i’m not that scary… only a little bit.

the current desk setup which i may or may not have obsessed over

so i haven’t done one of these posts in forever, but it is honestly up there with one of my favorite things to write about. every single time i sit down to write one of these, i always reminisce like crazy, and basically wonder how time literally flies by. one minute i’m sitting on my bed with my little man, brady (aka the greatest pups ever) and the next i’m sitting here in my school library, missing that same little man. it’s moments like these that make me miss my home and family, but as my mom keeps reminding me parent’s weekend here at georgetown is getting closer and closer. so until next time, here is a little update on my daily ongoings here in dc. (plus a few summer throwbacks)

megan-georgetownINSLEEi’m back at georgetown and honestly it feels like i never left.. i’ve said this multiple times, but it’s so true. once i step foot on campus and see healy hall for the first time, it’s as if summer barely happened. this semester will most definitely be a different one (friends studying abroad, new classes, clubs to administer, etc.), but i couldn’t be more excited. as of now i’m still working with my roommates to finish up our apartment (it takes time!), but when it’s done i promise all photos will be up here. my bedroom is a totally different story though… i have yet to tackle putting away my shoes and i still don’t think i’m ready for it.

now for the “coolest” part of this post… the illustration above was created for me by inslee. i interviewed her last year for the her campus georgetown branch, and afterwards was able to work with her to commission a print. i basically wanted a georgetown girl, and inslee more than delivered. while i was way too afraid to transport this to college with me (it’s hanging in a frame at home), i figured printing it out and putting in a frame here at school would work just as well. so until next time, which i promise will be soon, hoya saxa. (if you don’t know what this means, look it up)

cherry-blossoms-2MTrecently i have been missing georgetown quite a bit. i love my school and the area, and there are those moments where i wish i could be walking past the surrounding townhouses on my way down to m street. for the weekend of the fourth i headed on down to dc and i could have stayed longer, but it definitely was what i needed. before i get completely sidetracked i decided to make some cupcakes and happened to be inspired by my little trip.

1. if you ever have the chance to visit dc, make sure to visit the georgetown area. just walk around and i promise you’ll love it.

2. one of the best times to visit dc is during the cherry blossom season.

3. everyone talks about georgetown cupcake and sprinkles, but baked + wired is where it’s at.

chanelespadrilles2going into my second semester of sophomore year, influenced by the new year, i made a list of things i wanted to do: get up earlier, wear high heels, read more, go on adventures, and so on… at the end of the school year i made another list, which was more realistic and a result of my second semester experiences. tumblr_mksz9j8IrD1qjhe3mo1_500

  1. i can drink coffee… if i add in more than an equal share of milk and vanilla flavoring and ice. lots of ice.
  2. i am at my most productive when I am listening to certain pandora playlists: oldies and rap. to be more specific: american pie, with or without you, and losing my religion playlist or 99 problems, hypnotize, a$ap rocky, and kanye west and jay-z. can’t study without them.
  3. i can’t function on less than five hours of sleep. i can try (which I have), but by the end of the day, or nine o’clock, i am seriously struggling.
  4. i may say i’m going to finally get around to reading books i want to read, but it isn’t happening. that’s what summer’s for. so to all of my books waiting for me in my nook reader, i’m sorry. i’m trying to hurry though.
  5. classical studies as a minor could not have been a better choice for me. during the times i thought i couldn’t take business classes any longer, roman archaeology or classical mythology was there to keep me sane.
  6. i am definitely a procrastinator, but a productive one. if i don’t want to finish one assignment i will complete everything else first. it’s bad (but it’s good), but sometimes really bad.
  7. i might have an “organizational problem.”
  8. heels ain’t happening. for special occasions, yes, but even putting booties on made me want to wear flats, sandals, or my lo-top converse.
  9. adventures can happen, but sometimes you just need to go for it. planning may help, but when you’re always doing work there comes the time when you need to let go. this summer i definitely plan on more “adventures”, and next school year i already have a few places to visit.
  10. yeah, i can eat healthy meals, but it is mostly due to a sweetgreen addiction. i could eat a salad from there every single day. thanks to the sweetgreen app, it makes this addiction easier… so it may be time to delete that.

tumblr_mifarkUP1A1r7o4kzo1_500 during the school year i am extremely lucky/grateful to be an editor for her campus georgetown. i started off as a writer during my freshman year, which actually was the first year of our branch’s publication, and it has been one of my favorite experiences at georgetown. to top it off i get to do some pretty great articles, and the last one of the school year is an example of that. for the final piece i was able to interview inslee haynes, which was something i couldn’t have been more excited about since she happens to be one of my role models, and i figured a lot of georgetown girls would feel the same! before i even went to georgetown i used to go through her blog daily to catch up on her recent illustrations and whenever i saw them in publications i would get so excited (vicarious living i guess). after college inslee lived in dc and then moved to new york, so i am doing something pretty similar (living in dc for college, and moving back to new york after school), so i guess it could be called a residency reversal of sorts. one of my favorite parts of the interview happened to be something i wasn’t expecting. her favorite life quote, “this too shall pass”, happens to be our family quote and my favorite “line.” my grandpa used to always say this, my mom has it embroidered on her beach bag, and it’s honestly something i always say and live by. anyhow, if you check out this link you can read the entirety of the interview!tumblr_mmsg903eMG1rzpv7eo1_500tumblr_mm2w2edou41s0o47wo1_500

photoso when i started to decide what photos to put in this post i was not expecting to get nostalgic, but of course i did. gathering up a few photos should be easy, but it isn’t once you start realizing how much time has gone by. although some of these photos seem like yesterday, they weren’t. i’m officially in my last week of sophomore year, halfway done with college, and i don’t really know where the time went. one minute i’m taking a photo of the first cherry blossom blooms this spring, or enjoying my first coffee, and in the next minute i’m figuring out what to pack to go home. (last year’s move out was straight out of hell… my mom and brother can back me up on that one) leaving school isn’t easy, i always get emotional (such an understatement), and hopefully this end-of-the-year farewell will be easier for me. in a sense, i feel like harry every time he’s leaving hogwarts; if you’ve seen the movies you know what i mean. at the end of every movie (or almost every movie) harry says bye to all his friends and off he goes. it always made me so sad, but now i get why.. leaving your friends and your home isn’t exactly a good time. georgetown has become home for me, and even though i’m leaving soon i will be back again, just like harry. photo-11so february is winding to a close, and i’m entering that state of mind where i begin to freak out a tad bit. yes midterms are over, but when you’re in a business school, double majoring in marketing and finance and minoring in a completely different field of study a.k.a classical studies, this time is more than a bit stressful. trying to transition between these two completely different fields while studying is not fun, but hopefully it’ll be rewarding in the end. otherwise i’ll just buy myself some ben and jerry’s greek fro yo, and eat the whole carton.. it’s fro yo, i won’t feel too badly. actually, i won’t feel bad at all. anyhow, february is ending and spring is getting closer and i want everything to slow down a little bit. or maybe i need to slow down, and try to process everything at a slower rate, but that’s easier said then done, isn’t it?photo-9photo-8

photo copy 7last month i made the jump to instagram. yes, instagram. this may seem like it isn’t a big deal, but it has very much taken over a small (or significant) part of my life. i promise i won’t allow myself to enter the mindset where i can’t do something without instagraming it first, but it goes without saying that somehow instagram makes everything look better. that outfit you take a photo of suddenly becomes THAT OUTFIT, even if it isn’t that special… nothing wrong with a little deceiving though!

college, d.c., decor, dorm room, georgetown, heart, home decor, interior design, manhattan, new york, ork, posters, washington

i am the kind of person that once i love something, i truly LOVE it. it’s bad, i know, and some people may be a bit horrified by the sheer amount of sites, blogs, projects, and products i have favorited on my computer. i’m not. i like to consider it a serious kind of devotion, and this devotion is also seen in my everyday life, whether it be in my job, schoolwork, side projects, etc. i throw myself into something and i won’t stop until it’s completed (also i try to make it perfectly completed…)

anyways, i’m getting sidetracked.. back to my obsession. if i find something and i love it, i will squeeze everything i can out of our relationship (that sounds violent, this is more of a materialistic relationship, do not worry!). me and stripes, yeah it’s an unhealthy relationship, the photo below says it all…

so, yesterday i found a site that makes the most amazing posters of cities and i’m lusting after so, SO many of them. that little ol’ word “obsessed” has popped up again, but you know, i think you guys will be too…

how is this $22… it’s a miracle.

seeing georgetown gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling. i seriously may need this for my dorm room.

why are these so perfect?

could this be any cooler?

so yes, i will say it i have “serious devotion” to ork and i am proud. now, all we need is a long island poster and then we’ll be talking…
