classical music, indie, music, study playlist, study songs

tumblr_mkhg15C2ze1r7n4ueo1_500my musical taste tends to be widespread… one second i may be listening to major lazer and the next song is most likely the 1812 overture. this isn’t an exaggeration, because this happened to me earlier today. when it comes to studying though i usually have a steady playlist i’ll listen to. sometimes its classical, sometimes it’s oldies and other times its a random group of songs i threw together in a playlist. typically they’re “soothing” in the sense that i can listen to them nonstop and not get distracted, especially when i’m studying and looking for any distraction i can get. so without further ado, here are my current favorite “study songs”:

ode to joy // beecham choral society, rene leibowitz & royal philharmonic orchestra

big parade // the lumineers

wait for me // kings of leon

once there was a hushpuppy // beasts of the southern wild soundtrack

joanna // deaf joe

song for zula // phosphorescent

walk in the trees // the spectacular now soundtrack

all i want // kodaline

to build a home // the cinematic orchestra

1812 overture (finale) // charles gerhardt & philharmonic symphony of london

you and i // ingrid michaelson

laura palmer // bastille

young blood // the naked and famous

9/11, america, courage, great gatsby, nation, new york, remembrance

tumblr_mb6mzzt4mW1rd7epgo1_500sometimes i sit for ages, trying to figure out what to title a post. today is one of those days where i feel my title describes exactly how i feel. it’s a snippet of a line from the great gatsby by f. scott fitzgerald, but if you know the rest of the quote and you keep reading, i think you’ll understand why i chose it.

twelve years ago today, worlds were turned upside down, and lives were changed forever. i come from a small town on long island, a commuter town, and the majority of residents head into the city every single day. twelve years ago today my hometown lost almost fifty residents, and it’s something that will forever be a part of the legacy of my little long island town.

it seems like yesterday when i was at recess talking to one of my friends, trying to reassure her that her dad would be okay even though he worked in the twin towers. i had no idea if he truly was okay, but i did as much reassuring as a third grader could. i remember watching the news with my friends, while our moms were sitting together talking about things i couldn’t even begin to process at that age. i remember being at recess a few days later when smoke started seeping onto the field, and the teachers had to huddle all the children inside, attempting to keep us calm. i remember the masses we prayed at, the memorial services we attended, and the period of waiting. i still remember the waiting… my dad waiting to hear about his friends, and me at a young age asking where certain people were, not realizing that such a simple question could cause so much pain.

there are certain moments that stay with us forever, and for me 9/11 is one of them. no matter how many years pass or how young i was, there are things you don’t forget, and even at a young age i understood that. as a country we seem to forever be in the process of moving forward, but our past will always be a part of us.

back to school, fall, latte, lulu frost, psl, pumpkin spice, starbucks, sweater, sweater weather

tumblr_m281uxkuZa1qiaempo1_500i kid you not i have had this post planned out since august, but in typical meg fashion i got excited with other ideas and kept on rotating links in a folder, leaving them waiting to be unveiled. coming back to school after being gone for the whole summer is one of the craziest times ever, and while this is my third year of doing it, it doesn’t make it any less chaotic. as of right now the main though crossing my mind seems to be, “what is sleep?” i kind of have forgotten, but i’m slowly getting myself into a schedule… i’m even in the library right now, so steps are being taken, i swear.

so without further ado, here are some links that i have been loving:

this video literally had me crying. yes, i know i’m an emotional person, but i promise that it will tug at your heartstrings in the best way possible.

the samudra bags are some of my favorite things. looks can be deceiving, because while these pouches don’t look that big, they literally hold so much. not to mention the different designs are so, so cool.

ultimate living room inspiration right here.

now that the pumpkin spice latte has returned to starbucks my life is officially complete. while i can’t bring my self to drink one just yet, because i’m still in summer mode, i will drink one as soon as i feel that first shift in the weather. this guide to what your starbucks drink says about you could not be anymore accurate.. i am a perfect mix of pumpkin spice and chai.

exactly what i need for fall weather and late night study sessions.

beyonce. that’s the only description needed.

a perfectly cute/edgy bracelet that i have been lusting after for quite some time.

back to school, college, decor, decorating, georgetown, georgetown university, hoya saxa, inslee, inslee by design, studying

megan-georgetownINSLEEi’m back at georgetown and honestly it feels like i never left.. i’ve said this multiple times, but it’s so true. once i step foot on campus and see healy hall for the first time, it’s as if summer barely happened. this semester will most definitely be a different one (friends studying abroad, new classes, clubs to administer, etc.), but i couldn’t be more excited. as of now i’m still working with my roommates to finish up our apartment (it takes time!), but when it’s done i promise all photos will be up here. my bedroom is a totally different story though… i have yet to tackle putting away my shoes and i still don’t think i’m ready for it.

now for the “coolest” part of this post… the illustration above was created for me by inslee. i interviewed her last year for the her campus georgetown branch, and afterwards was able to work with her to commission a print. i basically wanted a georgetown girl, and inslee more than delivered. while i was way too afraid to transport this to college with me (it’s hanging in a frame at home), i figured printing it out and putting in a frame here at school would work just as well. so until next time, which i promise will be soon, hoya saxa. (if you don’t know what this means, look it up)

ea594c3ba65c0b61506365e713a2ee8athis upcoming weekend i will be heading back down to georgetown to embark on my junior year. it’s insane how quickly time flies by, and i really wish it would slow down a tad bit. the cool thing about this year is that my roommates and i will be living in an on-campus apartment, which means decorating time!! it’s really hard to plan decor for a place you aren’t living in, but i have been making some attempts. a target run here and there, window shopping in anthropologie, and a few days spent doing some d.i.y. projects will hopefully all pay off. the good thing about our apartment is that we have a big living room, which gives us a lot to work with, but on the other hand the bedrooms are so tiny.. the struggle to pack clothing this year is seriously real. when everything is finally put together i’ll be sure to post a few photos on here, but until then i figured i’d share some of the photos that inspired me!tumblr_mqgq6tolhH1qinh1vo1_500tumblr_mh3ondXcSr1rpbo22o1_500parisday9dd630e49d96276fa1ee92ea4ea226083-1enhanced-buzz-6199-1350085400-0

beauty, business, career, essie, intern, loreal, makeup, maybelline, summer internship, work

photo 5ten weeks ago i started a new job that without a doubt changed my life. now i won’t lie and say i was able to blog as much as i used to to, but honestly it’s okay. some of you may be thinking, “no, no it’s not”, but if there’s one thing i’ve learned this summer it’s that you can’t sweat the small stuff. for the past few weeks i interned for l’oreal in the consumer products division, aka i’d been working with l’oreal, maybelline, garnier and essie. working as a field intern i racked up many a mile on my trusty car named “duke” (she’s the man inspired), but when you drive a lot:

1. you become really comfortable navigating the road (especially multiple turnpikes, highways, etc.)

2. practicing your singing becomes commonplace. i have a really good rendition of treasure by bruno mars under my belt

3. sometimes road rage is just uncontrollable… especially in bumper to bumper traffic.

literally shaved off the back of my leg the night before my final presentation… only me.

literally shaved off the back of my leg the night before my final presentation… only me.

i can’t believe it’s over, because it seems like yesterday i was starting and feeling completely confused by all the beauty talk. (literally didn’t know half the terms, but i nodded along anyway) nowadays i can walk into a drugstore and identify all the products (it’s involuntary at this point), plus i can now set up a whole entire wall, which is a really cool feeling… except for the time i almost destroyed a beyonce graphic. so now that it’s over i can sit back and reflect a little bit. was it amazing? yes. was it a lot of work? without a doubt. would i have changed anything? nope, not at all.

haagen dazs, haagen dazs peach, ice cream, moments, peach, sorbet, summer, the little things

APoT_HaagenDazs_130726_2the other day i was going through some of my favorite blogs and i came across a post on a piece of toast which was right up my alley. it wasn’t fashion-inspired per se, but was about the little things in life. if you know me, or can learn anything about me from this blog, i am all about the little things in life. it also helps that the post happened to feature  my favorite ice cream/sorbet/fro-yo flavor of all time, peach haagen dazs sorbet. let alone the sorbet, all the pictures in the post happened to be absolute perfection. on that note it got me to thinking what my favorite “little things” are, and while i could easily go on and on, i figured i’d share a few here with you:

APoT_HaagenDazs_130726_7

1. peach haagen dazs sorbet (i had to)

2. a huge iced green tea with vanilla (actually an addiction)

3. that feeling you get after seeing a really good movie and being so fulfilled/happy you think your chest is going to burst (i swear this is real)

4. snuggling up in a really comfy blanket, reading an amazing book by the fire, while it’s snowing (if this has never happened to you, i promise it’s worth it)

5. any type of friends marathon

6. when i can sleep a little bit longer than originally planned (literally, i can sleep for the longest time.. like get up walk around, get some water, and go back to sleep. i don’t know if this is normal, but i like this ability so it is what it is)

7. seeing one of my favorite bands in concert (lumineers post coming up soon!)

8. decorating, plain and simple.

9. curling up in my bed, catching up on my favorite tv show

10. finding that perfect something you didn’t know was missing in your life

tumblr_mp6xw9uomW1r2l71bo1_500i’m going to start off this post with the truth: i am a beauty addict. i’ve covered this multiple times, but until i finally unearth my collection i don’t know if you guys can fully comprehend what i mean.. let’s just say that when i was younger and did a special deed worthy of something, my prize would be a lipgloss from sephora. now, i never wore this stuff to school, but in 8th grade i carried around a lipgloss and clear mascara religiously. it was my thing, and i knew that no matter how much mascara i’d apply it wouldn’t look like too much. that was the beauty of it, and i was learning this at a young age: less is more. now that i’m older and more “beauty experienced” i am more willing to take risks. i love a bright lip with everything else pretty natural, taupe smokey eyes, subtly flicked eyeliner, glowy skin, the whole shtick. to be honest, i don’t ever have just one beauty routine i stick to.. it is always changing. recently i’ve been lining just the roots of my upper lashline with black liquid liner, adding mascara and a tad bit of coral lipgloss. if i’m feeling fancy i’ll add some highlighter… a few months ago i never would have put eyeliner on my upper lashline for some kind of daily purpose, but times they are a-changing. knowing me next week i could be wearing zero makeup, and rocking the real world barefaced…. lol, jk.

business chic, clothes, dress code, fashion, her campus, her campus conference, style

tumblr_mn2r08RIgN1qa3061o1_500i am not a big fan of business dressing. this is something that needs to be put out there, because i happen to be in the business school at my college and business attire is normal. for someone like me, who likes to spice up an outfit with jewelry or a bright lip, a black pantsuit makes me feel way too restricted. the other day i was trying to figure out an outfit for two upcoming events i have to go.. one of them is the her campus national conference and the other is a rent the runway speaking event. back at georgetown i’m one the girls in charge of the best team (in my opinion), and i’m a blogger for their network too, so obviously i amgoing to attend (the sunday conference is open to readers, so jump on that ladies!)… before i get off track (which i already am), the dress code for these events is what made me even more excited. instead of business or business casual, it’s “business chic”, and that is something i can work with. so while i get ready for this upcoming weekend, i plan on imagining up more outfits than i could possibly wear… but to be all cheesy, a girl’s gotta dream, right?

i understand this wouldn't be acceptable attire, but it still wins in my book

baking, cherry blossoms, cooking, cupcakes, fondant, georgetown, georgetown university, washington d.c.

cherry-blossoms-2MTrecently i have been missing georgetown quite a bit. i love my school and the area, and there are those moments where i wish i could be walking past the surrounding townhouses on my way down to m street. for the weekend of the fourth i headed on down to dc and i could have stayed longer, but it definitely was what i needed. before i get completely sidetracked i decided to make some cupcakes and happened to be inspired by my little trip.

1. if you ever have the chance to visit dc, make sure to visit the georgetown area. just walk around and i promise you’ll love it.

2. one of the best times to visit dc is during the cherry blossom season.

3. everyone talks about georgetown cupcake and sprinkles, but baked + wired is where it’s at.
