elliott3a few months ago i wrote about one of my favorite bloggers, sincerely, jules, and how much i wish i could look as stylish as her a in sweatshirt. if i could pull of a sweatshirt like she does i would do it all the time.. (currently working on this since i just look like a mess). anyways, i decided to start a series where i’d feature some of my favorite outfits from some of my favorite bloggers. even though i’ve already done a post on jules before, i had to do an updated one. as i mentioned before the only way i can think of to describe her is simply that she is the shit. pardon me, but it’s true. her style is the definition of california cool, and if anyone could push me to wear a pair of high tops with a dress or heels during the day, it’s jules. i love how i talk as if i know her, even though i clearly don’t, but she is one of those bloggers you want to know. i could totally see us hanging out at the beach or browsing the shelves at zara, but that sounds so creepy so i’m going to stop. all in all she seems like a fashion buddy/a friend you’d want at your side, so i’m more than happy to kick off this series with her.  bcnbraid2memorylane7 newstuff surfbarcelona8 nordstromsavvy10 memorylane6

tumblr_mn3xq7e8eJ1qim02bo1_500i have a confession to make… i’ve hopped onto the pinterest bandwagon. when i say i fought this for about a year, i’m not kidding. i even made an account and then refused to use it, but it was for a good reason. i knew i’d become addicted, and i was right. knowing me i couldn’t just have any names for my boards, so when i tell you that i spent a good time brainstorming some “witty names” (that aren’t all that witty) i’m not exaggerating. pinterest has become a process, but it’s a process i love. planning for next year’s dorm decorations has already begun, and i have been working on my summer loving board like no tomorrow. if i’ve been off of my computer for a while i will sit and scroll back until i find my last pin, and start looking at other pins from there. i’d say i wasn’t addicted, but that’s a lie… (seeing that i have every possible form of it downloaded: phone, iPad, etc.) i’m still on the hunt for other pinners to follow, which gives me just another excuse to keep on pinning… or this whole post may be a cry for help in stopping this obsession (but not really).tumblr_mgr2r6uyZY1rd9ycko1_5002c75bdabf838a26131966fa0e3d01caftumblr_mkjnjxBt8S1r7304ko1_500d1fab949e1c57019844edd9e3f234655

i am a huge fan of the graphic shirt. for me they’re up there with stripes, and although i don’t have nearly as many as i do stripes, i still treasure them. graphic shirts may not be your thing, and you could be looking at this and thinking, “why?”. but if there’s a part of you that wants to try them, please go for it! they are so easy to wear casually, or dress up. i love to do both… for example, one of my favorite shirts looks great with a pair of leggings and cream colored lo-top converse, but it looks just as good tucked into a tan leather skirt with a pair of flats.

tumblr_mlgmhpKjbS1qa9ddao1_500i am back in good ol’ new york, and finally i feel like i can sleep! while unpacking my room i have also been preparing for a new job, so it’s been nothing short of busy. not to mention i injured my hand so it is currently wrapped in a little cast, making typing not too easy. once my room is done (i’ll post about it) i can finally feel settled in. one of the upsides of coming home is feeling like you don’t have to dress up, basically it’s okay to live in workout pants and t-shirts. i’ve realized i need to break this pattern and fast, so here are some outfits i am absolutely loving. 2013i’ve decided i’m the kind of person who may have my analytical side, but i have a creative half that balances it right out. whenever i take those quizzes asking if i’m left or right brained, i end up right in the middle. this classification isn’t exactly a classification, more a confirmation (even if these tests aren’t exact) in my mind at least, that i’m a good mix of different things. although i love making cards, decor, and little trinkets, i can’t stand having anything out of place or being unorganized. my organizational tendencies come in handy, but there are times i’ve gotta keep my perfectionistic quirks in check. when i head back to school, you can bet your bottom dollar (yes, i just said that) i will be making a paper source run and adding some new goodies to my crafting area (a.k.a. the desk i should be using to do homework). so many things on the internet inspire me to create, and i hope one day my blog will do that for others. to finish this post off, in the words of jack london, “you can’t wait for inspiration, you have to go after it with a club.”

today was a bit rainy and i had off from work so i decided to lay low and play around with some jewelry. i took a very inexpensive necklace i got from forever21 and separated it into different sections so i could make different projects.

i love the combination of rhinestone costume jewelry with friendship bracelets and string, so i decided to try out my own take on it. the results were better than i hoped for, and i already have a few outfits planned out with this necklace as the center! (i also realized that if dory from finding nemo were to wear a necklace, this might be it!)

supplies needed:

piece of costume jewelry (if you have a full necklace use pliers and wire cutter to separate it!) // two different colors of string with four strands and 20 inches in length // sharpie matching one of the string colors

weave one section of the colors throughout the necklace until its completed. if you need  to string them through each opening and are having trouble, use a bobby pin to help!

once the weaving has been done, braid the strands together. (i did this with the yellow!)

one the other side i attached the blue strings to the costume jewelry by tying them around a hook and then doing chinese staircase.

i finished off the necklace by drawing some of the necklace’s diamonds in with blue sharpie.

that’s it! so simple, inexpensive and stylish!
